This hike is marked in yellow and white
(S/E) Opposite the town hall of Alba-la-Romaine, turn right towards the post office. At the crossroads of the Valvignères and Alba roads, turn left towards Saint-Pons (north) on the D263.
Follow it (leaving Rue de la Calade on your right) and cross the bridge over the Escoutay river.
(1) At the cooperative winery, take the small road on the left and follow it to the hamlet of Buis d'Aps.
(2) At the crossroads, cross the RD107 (take care), continue along the small road opposite which leads to the RN102, cross it.
(3) Opposite, take a wide path for a few metres, then immediately turn left and follow a vineyard parallel to the RN102. (You will see yellow and white markings on a tree).
At the end of this plot, turn 90° north (landmarks: green cross on the ground and red and white ribbon on a tree). Continue along this path up the hillside between the vineyards, ignoring the paths that cross it on the right. A little further up, near a small, partially fenced dwelling, the road becomes a path (markers on the ground) and passes over a low wall, well to the left of the fences. Follow the water reservoir and continue.
(4) At the top of this hill, at the crossroads of four paths (barrier), continue on the same path opposite, heading north.
(5) Join the D263, Mât de Fraysse. Head towards Saint-Pons, taking the small road opposite leading to the hamlet of Fraysse. Walk along the hamlet; the road becomes a path after the last house. Go up this path heading north-west. After 500m, cross a ford over the Ravin de Fraysse stream. Continue along this path until the next crossroads.
(6) Turn right heading north and head towards the Mât de Fourche.
(7) At this pole, where the tracks cross, leave the one that goes to Saint-Pons and continue straight ahead north towards Sceautres. Continue for about 700 m until you reach the next crossroads: Mât de Chaulène.
(8) Continue along this wide road towards Sceautres (3.4 km).
(9) When you reach the Mât de Langelard, head north towards Sceautres (2.6 km). Do not turn right down towards the Téoulemale stream below. Continue straight ahead, cross the hamlet of Les Avisins and continue to the next fork. You will now see the imposing mass of the neck, which you must go around on the left.
(10) Go down to the right, along a pretty paved slanting street in the lower part, towards the Téoulemale stream. Keep heading northeast until you reach the stream. Cross the bridge, follow the path (geological trail), then take the small road on the right that leads to the junction with the RD263.
(11) Return trip: turn right and head towards the old village, walk along the houses until you reach the steps on the right. Climb the steps and, between two houses on the left, take the well-maintained and secure path that leads to the top of the neck.
Back on the road, turn right onto the RD263 heading south for about 200 metres.
(12) Turn right onto a small road (Rue de la Fontaine) which runs alongside two houses and continues straight ahead.
(13) At the next crossroads: Chambon mast, head towards La Carrière. Take the path on the left which joins the RD263, which you follow on the right until the crossroads. Turn left onto the small road going up to the hamlet of Le Bouchet. To the left of the first house in the hamlet, take a small path that passes behind and above the house, then climbs up to the edge of the Coiron plateau. You will reach the old Masse basalt quarry (signs and historical information).
(14) At the crossroads, follow the signs for Saint-Pons on the right and descend to the Serre Pointu mast.
(15) Continue down the very gentle slope on this long main track, ignoring the various paths that join it. Reach the intermittent Peyre stream, cross it and join the Lebrat mast, located on the track.
(16) Turn left towards Alba-Théâtre antique, cross the same stream a second time, then turn right 200 metres further on.
Stay on this track, then continue on the road until you reach the N102.
(17) Pass a horse farm and continue to the national road.
(18) Cross the RN102 (be careful) and continue along the small road opposite. Drive past the Lacour cooperative winery and continue straight ahead until you reach the entrance gate to the archaeological site.
(19) Go through the gate and visit the site at your leisure or walk through it. To leave the site, go down towards the stream near the ancient theatre, cross it via the bridge and rejoin the D107.
(20) Cross the road and continue straight ahead on a small road that turns right and passes under the castle of Alba-la-Romaine, runs alongside the campsite and rejoins the outward route.
Continue left, find the post office and the car park (S/E) on the right.
