Description of the walk

Park at the Super Longevilles ski slopes car park, accessible via the D450 from Longevilles-Mont-d’Or or Rochejean.

(S/E) Join the access road to the summit of Mont-d’Or and follow this road uphill to the right until you reach the path branching off to the left towards Mont-d’Or.

(1) Follow this path uphill and ignore the first path on the right (water tank).

(2) Take the path branching off to the right and continue uphill until you rejoin the access road to Mont-d’Or.

(3) Follow the road to the left to reach the car park. Walk to the end of the car park and turn right, heading towards the ridge.

(4) Turn right onto the path leading to the summit of Mont-d’Or. Please note that the ridge path can be very busy and sometimes runs very close to the cliffs, so take care, especially with children.

(5) At the summit of Mont-d’Or, continue along the ridge path to reach the second summit at the same altitude. Carry on in the same direction until you reach the Cabane du Mont-d’Or (CAS refuge).

(6) Shortly afterwards, continue along the ridge path and ignore the paths leading down the Swiss side.

(7) Leave the ridge and follow the signposted path on the right until you reach the access road to the Grande Échelle alpine farm, which you should ignore by leaving it on your right.

(8) Head down the road on your left towards the Petite Échelle lodge, where you will no doubt spot the main building and a yurt.

(9) Turn right and continue along this road.

(10) Leave the road and take a path on the left shortly after the 1172 mark. Join the signposted path at the 1176 mark; this has allowed you to avoid a tarmac section. Carry on in the same direction and you’ll come out onto a main track just before the Haut Soulier farm.

(11) Follow it to the left until you reach the first junction.

(12) Turn right towards Les Granges Raguin to join the GTJ and the GR®5.

(13) Follow the GR®5 on your right towards Les Granges Raguin and join the access road.

(14) Turn right onto it, heading towards the clearly visible buildings; pass them and continue for about 300 m.

(15) Leave the road and follow the GR®5 to the left, towards the Boissaude farm. Keep going straight on, heading towards the buildings.

(16) Leave the GR® and head left towards the Boissaude farm (accommodation and food available), which you’ll go round on the left towards the Barthelette farm. Keep to the right at the three-way junction and you’ll reach a crossroads.

(17) Turn left towards La Barthelette.

(18) At the farm, if the mountain pastures are not occupied by herds, you can take a shortcut to rejoin the original fork. Otherwise: choose your route – follow the road to the right until the first crossroads and turn left to rejoin the original fork.

(1) Follow the access road, in the opposite direction to the way out, to reach the car park for the Super Longevilles slopes (S/E).

A really, really lovely hike for me – my first time in the mountains. A mix of ascents and descents, 550m of elevation gain and 16.90 km
Quite busy at the summit, but otherwise almost no one else around.

A lovely walk, with no major difficulties.
We had a magnificent view of the Alps and Mont Blanc, as we were hiking in lovely weather.
The route is well signposted and very scenic as you make your way from one farm to the next.
A lovely hike in the Haut-Doubs!
Thank you for sharing.

Hello,
Sorry that the route indicated is no longer in ideal condition; forestry work sometimes causes significant damage to trails... To avoid network problems, I recommend downloading the hike and the associated map(s). The Visorando app allows you to do this, which is very handy as your phone will always locate you fairly accurately on the map, even if the network is down. Please mention this to your colleague, as they may not be aware of this feature.
Best regards

A smooth start right up to the 10; after that, the path was rutted by forestry machinery, with skid marks all over the place, and to top it off, no signal for my colleague’s Visorando app.We took the small road again to reach point 15. There were a few tourists and walkers at the summit of Mont d’Or, followed by a few mountain bikers. A lovely route all the same, with beautiful views and a welcome cool breeze on this hot day.
