Ridge, Lake Drennec and countryside from the Mougau Bihan passage grave.

Starting from the beautiful Mougau Bihan covered walkway in Commana, this route crosses the nearby peat bog and then climbs up to a ridge on Mont-d'Arrée. Following this ridge, you reach the shores of Lake Drennec before returning along small country roads.

Description of the walk

Park in thecar park near theMougau Bihan covered passage.

(S/E) From the car park, take the path leading to the passage tomb and take the time to explore it, trying to spot the engravings on the pillars (not easy to see). With your back to the passage, cross the road and enter the bog to follow the interpretive route (a long route on a superb boardwalk that winds through the bog). Continue until you reach a fork in a gravel path.

Yellow markings

(1) Leave the bog route, turn left at a right angle and climb towards the ridge along a path through heather, broom and ferns. This climb is quite steep but steady on a stony path (schist). You will come out on the ridge where you will find the PR® "Les Pierres Bleues" (signposted) (viewpoint over Lake Brennilis and the Tuchenn Kador summit (385 m), which hides the summit and the Saint-Michel Chapel).

(2) Turn right and follow the ridge line, which offers a beautiful view of Commana and the surrounding countryside. Pass by old slate quarries lost in the vegetation. Continue to the Croas Mélar crossroads (signposted).

No markings

(3) Continue straight ahead on a wide track that descends alongside a wood and, after about a hundred metres, look out for the monumental cross called Croaz Mélar among the fir trees. A passageway provides access to it. Continue until you reach a marked path.

Yellow markings

(4) Turn left onto a path between the fields that leads to the hamlet of Kermabil.

No markings

(5) Just before the entrance to the hamlet, turn left onto a path and continue until you reach a country road. Follow it to the left until you reach the next road on the right.

(6) Turn right onto this small road which leads to a car park near Lac du Drennec (picnic tables). Continue to the right along a beach and arrive at the water sports centre.

Yellow markings

(7) Leave the lake shore, go up the road on the right, continue straight ahead and arrive at a triangular crossroads. Cross the road and take the path opposite.

No markings

(8) Turn left, cross the road and continue straight ahead to pass through the hamlet of Brézéhant, a former weavers' hamlet (bed and breakfast). Return to the road and follow it for about 100 metres to the left.

(9) Turn right along the farm buildings, continue to the left and arrive at a crossroads.

Yellow markings

(10) Opposite, reach the hamlet of Kernaman (house with apoteis (projection) and sundial) and cross it.

(11) At the exit, turn right onto a grassy path that joins another PR® trail, "Les Pierres Bleues".

(12) Turn left and follow this path, which leads to a road. Continue straight ahead to the hamlet of Mougau Bihan and the car park (S/E).
