Description of the walk

Park in the Wiesenthalhalle car park at the end of Siedlungstrasse in Michelbach.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, follow the road to the right.

(1) After about a hundred metres, turn left onto Siedlungstrasse. When the road bends to the right, carry on straight ahead onto Huberweg.

(2) At the end, first turn left then right to follow the Michelbacher Rundweg (well signposted). At a fork in the road, keep to the right.

(3) At the edge of the forest, turn sharply right and carry on straight ahead to the Schlossköpfel (viewpoint).

(4) Walk back to the previous junction.

(3) Carry on to the Pestkreuz.

(5) Then continue along the same path (signposted “Michelbacher Rundweg”), which descends gently to a stream (Litzelbach).

(6) Cross the bridge and follow the path to the right. After a short stretch through the woods, and following two bends, you’ll reach a path which you follow to the right; it climbs gently across the meadows to a junction of three paths.

(7) Ignore the paths to the right and left and continue straight ahead (signposted “Michelbacher Rundweg”). After a wide bend to the left, you’ll reach another junction. Follow the path to your left, passing the Hilsberghütte (shelter) further up, before reaching another junction where you’ll continue to the left. Walk past the Rückhütte, then, after a bend to the right, reach a junction.

(8) Continue along the path on the right (“Michelbacher Rundweg”), alternating between sections through woodland, meadows and orchards. After a bend to the left, you’ll reach the junction with the Obersbachweg.

(9) Turn right, ignore the next three paths on the left, then, after the bend, follow the path which climbs to the left. A few metres further on, take the path on the left (still the “Michelbacher Rundweg”), which leads back into the woodland, and continue to the junction with the Bruhbergweg.

(10) Continue along the path on your right; after several bends, you’ll reach the Scheibenberg.

(11) Carry on to the right, still on the “Michelbacher Rundweg”, until you reach the Schaftberg.

(12) Continue straight on along the path which descends through the meadows and leads to the entrance to Michelbach.

(13) Turn left, then head down Brunngasse on the right-hand side. Ignore the first street you come to, then take the second on the right, followed by the first on the left (Lindenstrasse) to reach Gaggenauer Strasse and rejoin the Michelbacher Rundweg.

(14) At this junction, you can stop for a drink at the “Zum Engel” pub on the right. Otherwise, turn left and, at the next junction, ignore the streets on the right and left and continue along Heilweg, which takes you back to the car park where you started (S/E).

We didn’t come across a single soul during this pleasant walk on that hot Sunday in August.
Yet there was a nice breeze, and the sections through the forest provided some welcome refreshment.
We did the walk with two children aged 11 and 9; it was fairly easy as the climbs are short and the Michelbacherweg is signposted all the way (sometimes the signs are a bit hidden, so having the route map is reassuring).
Between the beautiful views, the few points of interest and the changing scenery, you don’t notice the time passing. And as a bonus, there are mulberry trees all along the path to help you top up your energy
Thanks for sharing; we’ll no doubt do it again another time.

PS: at point 14, you suggest stopping at the Zum Engel bistro for a drink; I should point out that it’s closed between 3pm and 5pm. But there’s another one on the square, as well as an ice-cream parlour.
