Park near the Espace François Mitterand.
(S/E) Walk slightly uphill along a footpath between the hall and a block of flats to reach Rue Dupuy. Turn left onto this street, go through a roundabout and then a hairpin bend, and turn left onto a street that leads to some villas.
(1) Leave the street and take a steep path that joins Rue Antoine Borrel. Follow it to the left, then after a bend, take a path that climbs up to the fort. Visit the site by crossing it.
Reach the end of the road that leads to the fort, then descend and make a detour to an orientation table. Continue descending and after a bend, take Rue Montée du Fort, descend further to Rue du Docteur François Dumas, which crosses the old town of Montmélian.
(2) Turn left, then before a school complex, turn right onto Rue des Remparts. Follow this street, turning right at the church.
(3) Go down the few steps to reach the church square and enter the public garden. Walk along the upper wall, go around a small gymnasium on the left, reach the end of the cul-de-sac that serves it, go down to Rue Édouard Daladier and turn right. Before the roundabout, cut left at a 45° angle and you will come to Rue Jean Moulin. Continue along this street, cross the roundabout and head towards Arbin.
Before the bridge under the railway line, turn right.
(4) Go under the railway line through a narrow passage. Follow the narrow streets and small stairways up to the old village of Arbin, join Grande Rue, walk up it for a few metres, then turn left onto Chemin du Col du Grand Mont. Walk gradually uphill through the vineyards until you reach a statue of the Virgin Mary on a promontory.
(5) After the statue, leave the path on the right towards the Col du Mont and climb up opposite on a path that turns left. After the vineyard, enter a wooded area, then begin the descent towards Montmélian. Pass close to an enclosed area with a viewpoint, then leave the path on the right that climbs to La Roche du Guet and continue past a hairpin bend. You will reach a small intersection.
(6) Leave the path and take a trail that descends through the woods and reaches the road that serves the Calloudes neighbourhood.
(7) Cross the road and descend via the path below, rejoining the road opposite the landscaped cemetery. Stay on the road, cross the railway line, head towards the town centre and, from the large roundabout, follow the main road to the right and return to the car park (D/:A).
