(S/E) After parking in the car park at the edge of the village in the direction of the lake, cross the road and follow the ditch to the wooden bridge that crosses it.
(1) Turn left onto this bridge. Walk along a small bamboo grove until the path reaches a small road.
Turn left, then a few metres further on, at the crossroads, turn right towards La Chavanne.
After passing the riding school, the road turns right and begins to climb.
At the end of the long straight climb, you will reach a wide path.
(2) Continue straight ahead on this path (Chemin des Platieres), climb into the woods and rejoin the road at its end.
Continue straight ahead on the road until you reach the sign for La Chavanne.
(3) Turn right onto the street, which becomes a dirt track. After the left-hand bend, continue along the Chemin des Plantées. (There is a beautiful view of Combefort Castle slightly to the right and the lake below).
The path joins a street and some houses.
Continue straight ahead and at the end of the straight stretch, when the street curves to the left, continue straight ahead through a passage along the fence for a few metres. You will reach the crossroads of Route de Verrens.
(4) Turn right. The road winds, descends and climbs again before reaching a crossroads. (Organic fruit producer on the left).
Turn left. The road runs alongside the park and then the Château de la Peysse (note the mouldings of the former chapel of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem). You will reach the plateau. In the bend, take the path on the right which descends towards the hamlet of Le Touvet.
When you reach the tarmac road again (beautiful oratory), turn left. At the Y-junction, continue to the left. The street becomes a path, leaves the village and descends.
After two wide bends, the path continues straight ahead before reaching a wood, which it runs alongside.
(5) At the end of the woods, turn right and follow a small stream.
The path curves to the right and passes through the undergrowth (beautiful views of the hamlet you have just passed through).
At the end of the path, at the bend in the road, turn left.
After crossing the small stone bridge, take the path on the right that runs alongside the Coisin and continue to the bridge on the right.
After crossing the bridges over the two branches of the Coisin, head towards the car park and cross it diagonally.
(6) After going through the wooden gate, turn immediately left (picnic tables).
Take the wooden walkway that runs alongside Lake Ste-Hélène without getting your feet wet. The walkway leads to a gravel path.
Take it to the left to reach a platform at the edge of the lake, with a beautiful view of the mountains.
Retrace your steps and continue along the gravel path.
At the edge of the woods, take the small path on the right (see alternative route below). The path leads to the edge of the ditch you walked along at the start.
(1) Turn left, go over the small bridge and cross the road to return to the car park where you started (S/E).
Alternative: Instead of turning, continue along the gravel path (beautiful view of Le Granier and La Chartreuse) to the disabled car park. Turn right onto the gravel path that runs alongside the road and, at the end, turn left to return to the starting car park (S/E).
