Description of the walk

Car park at the Pechbonnieu Sports Hall (Colette Besson).

(S/E) From the car park, turn left to go round the sports grounds and the cultural centre on the right. Pass the supermarket on your right, then continue to the first path on the right. Take this to reach the D77.

(1) Follow it to the left, then keep right at the roundabout before taking the first right onto Rue Jean Dumont until it ends at the Château de Roche.

(2) Turn left and go round the château via the old, reopened village path on the right. Take a left, then a right, followed by another right, then another left, and carry on straight ahead to the Ruisseau de Cendry.

(3) Head up to the left, following the stream to the Pont de la Paco.

(4) Pass to the right through the village of Montberon and head back down the stream to the second path on the left. Follow it up to Rue Jean Moulin. Turn left, then right, and join Rue des Vignes.

(5) Continue straight on along Rue Saint-Exupéry until you reach Rue du Bois Grand. Turn left into the street, then follow Allée du Malrigou straight ahead. Continue along the dirt track that extends from the street until you reach a T-junction.

(6) Turn right and continue straight ahead until you reach the water point at Labastide Stadium.

(7) Keep going straight on and stay on the right-hand side along the stadium on Chemin de Matrimonis until you reach the car park. Cross the car park and take the path at the far left-hand end. Pass one junction and you’ll soon come to a second one.

(8) Turn left towards the woods and continue to the D77a.

(9) Turn left onto the path. Continue straight on until you cross the path you took on the way out.

(7) Turn right onto Chemin du Bois de la Commune. At the Fork in the road before the woods, turn left towards the stream. Cross it to follow the same path as on the way out but in the opposite direction until you reach the fourth junction.

(6) Continue straight on along Rue Jean Moulin, past the sewage treatment plant, until you reach a Fork in the road.

(10) Turn right twice to cross a stream. Then continue straight on, then left onto Chemin du Bois de la Commune and follow it to the edge of the woods.

(11) Keep heading due south until you reach Chemin de Roche. Follow it straight on until you reach the last house on the left-hand side of the street.

(12) Turn right, then immediately straight ahead onto a path before continuing along Impasse des Sources to Chemin du Moureau.

(13) Turn right onto this path, then left onto Chemin de L'Herbe until you reach Route de Gratentour, D77.

(14) Cross with care and head straight on along Chemin du Verdoc. Pass one junction, then turn right at the next one onto Chemin de Labastidole.

(15) Continue straight ahead, then turn left before turning right at the end, then left again onto a path between the houses before reaching the car park (S/E).

A lovely route, mostly in the shade, thankfully. I had a bit of trouble finding the start from the car park.
I took a shortcut from point 6 to point 10 because of the heatwave. Not to be done in wet weather as, along the stream, you can see it’s dried mud. A lovely surprise so close to the city.

A large part of this walk follows paths or tracks – about three-quarters of the way – so take care on the second section between zones 2 and 3 after it has rained, as it gets quite muddy; it’s also a bit muddy up to zone 4.
Beautiful sections through the woodland, close to urban areas.
Worth a try
