Park near the Rond du Chêne Forest Ranger’s House.
Yellow signposting.
(S/E) With your back to the centre (start sign on the left with routes listed on the reverse), turn left onto the Allée d’Oyré until you reach the large crossroads. Turn left amongst the oak trees
(1) At the three-way junction, head straight ahead, leaving behind and crossing the widest path called Allée de Châtelleraut. Cross another junction, then descend slightly and climb gently up a narrower path that winds a little before emerging into the open.
(2) Cross a long, straight track and continue straight ahead, with fields to your left and copses to your right. First view of the countryside. At the junction, head down to the left, passing a charming house. Then descend again along a pretty sunken path towards the hamlet of Les Montants. When you reach the small road, turn right at the sign indicating 6 km and walk down the street to the main road.
(3) Turn left and walk past the pleasant village fountain, with the picnic area above it. Ignore the small street on the left and, further on to the left, take the steep, stony, grassy path.
(4) At the top of the hill, turn left. At the next junction (signpost indicating 4 km), turn right onto the Grand Chemin. Follow this wide, straight path, lined with trees on the right, with lovely views to the left.
(5) After a small vineyard on the left-hand side of the path, turn left – there’s a lovely view of the rolling countryside along the banks of the Creuse. Walk down through open countryside amidst fields and small copses. When you reach the bottom of the steep woodland, turn right and follow a stony path alongside it until you reach the road, where you’ll be treated to another panoramic view.
(6) Continue down this small country road. At the bend, turn sharply left, heading up the grassy path, then climb the stony sunken track until you reach the flat area.
(7) At the three-way junction, go straight on along the path through the oak and pine trees. At the next three-way junction, turn right onto the Vieille Allée de la Guerche towards the forest keeper’s cottage with red shutters and continue to the Rond du Chêne (S/E).
