Description of the walk

The Randocroquis booklet is available at the Saint-Pierre-d’Entremont Tourist Office.
Car park at the Tourist Office.

(S/E) From Saint-Pierre-d’Entremont, at the Tourist Office, follow theGRP® Tour de Chartreuse towards the Chemin des Mules, then leave theGRP® to reach the Church of Saint-Alexis in Saint-Pierre-d’Entremont (Savoie).

(1) Cross the bridge and turn left onto the road leading to the Buis quarry. At the three-way junction below, follow the path down towards the Guiers Vif.

(2) At the footbridge, the first Randocroquis® table offers a drawing workshop. Walk alongside the old Martinet des Chartreux. Look out for a remarkable beech tree on the right (marked with a white paint stripe) over 35 metres tall! Continue uphill to reach the main road, cross it carefully andfollow the path through the forest to the hamlet of Château. (This climb is not accessible when there is snow.)

(3) In the hamlet, a return trip to the ruins of Montbel Castle (the stronghold of the Lords of Entremont, built in 1306 and fallen into ruin since the Revolution) offers an exceptional view of the Entremonts valley, Randocroquis® information boards and a relief map.

(3) On the way back, follow the road to the left. In the hamlet, on the right, look out for the water wheel of an old frame sawmill. At the fork in the road, keep left.

(4) After the last houses in the hamlet of Les Terray, follow the path that dips to the left. Between the forest and the meadows, you will then come to the small road which, on the left, leads back down to the village. Follow Rue du Dauphiné to the left to reach the Tourist Office (S/E).

We had a wonderful walk, but only did half of it because the climb was too steep and we realised too late, so we turned back.
The walk should have been very nice

Hike completed today. A lovely first section, finishing with a visit to the castle and a magnificent view of the Chartreuse. The second section is far less interesting (and mostly along the road).
Perfectly doable in winter if there’s no snow, as it’s not muddy at all. Must be lovely in summer as it’s very shady.
And if you come across a grey merle Border Collie with different-coloured eyes, who seems keen to join you, he’s a runaway – his owner’s number is on his tag ;-)

A pleasant walk, though the first part along a small road is rather uninteresting. It then climbs through the forest. The view from the hamlet of Château is stunning, and the ‘randocroquis’ signposts are a great idea for anyone who enjoys drawing and painting.

A lovely walk – it’s quite a climb, let’s not kid ourselves... Make sure you follow the path carefully.
But once you reach the top, what a view...
I’ll be back very soon
