The Frasne and Bouverans Regional Nature Reserve is emblematic of the Drugeon basin. From the unique flora of the peat bogs to the history of peat extraction, the post-glacial origins and the ecological role of wetlands, you are invited to immerse yourself in this unique world and discover its mysteries.
There are two possible starting points for this hike. The starting point indicated here is called the mill car park. To get there by car, follow the road signs for "Tourbières de Frasne - Grand circuit".
(S/E) From the car park, follow the path that runs along the left side of the Étang du Moulin pond and pass it.
(1) Turn right onto a paved path that climbs slightly through a spruce plantation.
(2) You will arrive at the Tourbières car park, the second possible starting point for this circuit. Enter the peat bog site through the access gate. It is located behind the information boards on the side of the car park. Follow a gravel path that leads to a small moraine hill before descending towards the tree line and crossing a wooden footbridge.
(3) Turn right at the first fork in the boardwalk.
(4) At this intersection, you have two choices.
Continue slightly to the left to complete the short Tourbières circuit and return to the starting point via the same path.
Turn right to complete the long circuit. Once off the footbridge, continue on your left along the stone path.
(5) Leave the stone path and take a dirt track. After a few metres, you will arrive at a Canadian pontoon.
(6) At the end of the Canadian pontoon, turn left to see the Creux au Lard, then retrace your steps and continue along the stone path until you reach a road
(7) Turn left onto the tarmac road.
(8) Take the wooden pontoon on the left to see the living peat bog, then return. Then take the tarmac road on the left on your way back.
(1) Continue along the same route as on the way there, which runs alongside the Étang du Moulin and leads back to the car park (S/E).
