The Frasne and Bouverans Regional Nature Reserve is emblematic of the Drugeon basin. From the unique flora of the peat bogs to the history of peat extraction, the post-glacial origins and the ecological role of wetlands, you are invited to immerse yourself in this unique world and discover its mysteries.
There are two possible starting points for this hike. The starting point indicated here is called Parking des Tourbières. To get there by car, follow the road signs indicating "Tourbières de Frasne - Petit route".
(S/E) Enter the Frasne peat bogs site (car park and visitor centre), the access gate is behind the information boards on the side of the car park. Follow a gravel path that leads to a small moraine hill before descending towards the tree line and crossing a wooden footbridge.
Turn right at the first fork in the footbridge.
(1) At this intersection, you have two choices:
- Continue slightly to the left to complete the short Tourbières route and return to the starting point via the same path.
- Turn right to complete the long route. Once off the pontoon, continue on your left along the stone path.
(2) Leave the stone path and take a dirt track. After a few metres, you will arrive at a Canadian pontoon.
(3) At the end of the pontoon, turn left to see the Creux au Lard, then retrace your steps and continue along the stone path to the point.
(4) Turn left onto the tarmac road.
(5) Take the wooden pontoon on the left to see the living peat bog, then return. Then take the tarmac road on your way back.
(6) Turn right onto a paved path that climbs slightly through a spruce plantation and follow this path to the car park (S/E).
We did the grand route: there's nothing more to say: we'll be back because we loved this route, the colours, the peace and quiet, the well-marked trail, the explanations and the little welcome chalet! Everything was great!
