Route des jacinthes dans le Bois de Pimont

A walk to explore the Eawy Forest, which in spring is covered in a beautiful, fragrant blue carpet of hyacinths. Best done before forestry work alters the flora in this part of the forest.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park on the D114, on the right after crossing the Béthune.

(S/E) Follow the Dampierre forest track as it climbs towards the forest and head towards the orientation table.

(1) Walk past the remarkable Martine beech tree on your right, continue for 100 m and, at the right-hand bend, turn onto the path on the left. Follow this path along the ridge.

(2) After 200 m, on the left, you’ll see two remarkable trees. Further on, at the right-hand bend, turn left between plots 2 and 4.

(3) 50 m further on, watch out for a tricky section in a ravine. Carry straight on.

(4) After 500 m, take the path on the right in front of plot 15, to the right of plot 12. Cross a clearing, continuing straight ahead and slightly to the left until you reach the main path. Then turn left onto theGR® de Pays, marked in red and yellow. Pass in front of the forester’s cottage and the former property.

(5) At the wayside shrine a few metres further on, continue to the left.

(6) After 400 m, turn right onto theGRP®, signposted just before plot number 16. Continue along theGRP®, which runs straight on for 600 m before turning left at a 90° angle and joining a small tarmac road about 2 km further on.

(7) Turn right and continue to the D98.

(8) Carry on straight ahead towards Manoir du Val, following Rue des Deux Vallées for 600 m.

(9) When you reach the wayside cross, turn left onto the Chemin du Calvaire and continue straight on along the path through the forest for 2 km. When you reach the T-junction, turn right.

(10) When you reach the large roundabout at Rond-Point des Fleurs, which has a car park, continue straight ahead along the Hautes Laies forest track opposite, following theGRP® signposts.
After 500 m, leave theGRP® on your left and carry on straight ahead along the path which turns to the right. Stay on the main path, ignoring all turn-offs to the left and right, until you reach a junction at elevation 141. Head straight ahead and continue to the next junction.

(11) Turn right between plots 28 and 29 onto the Chemin d’Etables. After 1 km, leave the forest and join the D98.

(12) Cross the D98 with care and follow the small road opposite which crosses the Fond de Meuse. After a sharp bend to the left, join the D107 and continue to the left towards Saint-Germain-d’Étables.

(13) At the junction 700 m further on, take the path on the right towards the Forêt du Massif de Pimont. The path takes a first hairpin bend to the left, then a second turn right after a gate which you must go through, and leads to a fork.

(14) Turn left at plots 7 and 15. Continue straight on, going downhill then uphill, and carry on straight ahead at the junction between plots 9 and 6.

(15) 50 m further on, follow the path that branches off to the left, keeping a west-north-westerly direction.
When you reach a junction (you’ll see a plot with fir trees), turn left. After 100 m, at another junction, turn right and carry on straight ahead.
At the end of the path between plots 11 and 9, turn right and carry on straight ahead until you reach a large junction, about 500 m further on.

(16) Carry on straight ahead (plot 2 on your right) and, at the left-hand bend, go straight across between plots 1 and 2 to reach a Fork in the road.

(17) Keep to the right within plot 2 and follow the path, which turns 90° to the right to join the main track. Turn left.

(1) Pass Martine the beech tree again, and continue along the forest track to reach the car park (S/E).

A lovely walk with beautiful views, woods carpeted with hyacinths and wild garlic just starting to flower. We were even lucky enough to spot a roe deer. Thank you very much, Bernard, for sharing this walk with us.

Hyacinths in bloom, magnificent trees, a few clearings and lovely views = a really lovely walk despite the rainy weather in the morning.

The Saint Ouen Sous Bailly Festival Committee organises a walking tour every year; we followed this route, which was very well signposted, with beautiful views – it was a lovely walk with the hyacinths in bloom.
Pure bliss in the heart of nature, with the sun shining down – a lovely day.
Kind regards

The Festival Committee
