Description of the walk

Start from the Parking de la Vilaine car park, Rue de Paris, in Châteaubourg.

YellowPR® markings supplemented by green arrows bearing the number 37.

(S/E) Leave the car park, cross Rue de Paris at the pedestrian crossing and continue straight on for about 50 metres. Then turn right onto Rue des Manoirs.

(1) Turn left 50 metres further on, join Rue du Tertre and follow it to the junction with Rue des Cottages. Cross it and continue straight ahead along a path. Take the first path on the left and join Rue du Prieuré.

(2) Cross it and follow it to the left to reach Rue des Rochers. Turn right onto it.

(3) Before the left-hand bend, take a path on the right. Follow the path alongside the Ruisseau de la Vallée until you reach the La Vallée farm. Continue straight on, cross a local track and follow the road to the hamlet of Le Châtaignier.

(4) Take the path leading to the football pitch and go round it. Walk past the changing rooms and follow the second pitch to reach a road. Cross the road and continue straight on along a path until you reach Rue de la Forge.

(5) Turn left and you’ll come out onto Rue de Vitré (D857); turn right onto it, cross at the pedestrian crossing and head up to the church. Go round it on the left and continue along a path that runs behind a housing estate.

(6) Take the dirt track on the right which leads to Rue des Landelles. At the junction, turn left then right to follow Rue du Champ Derre

(7) Turn left onto the sandy track. At the end, turn right then left onto a small lane.

(8) Turn slightly right to take the road opposite and cross under the railway line. Immediately after, turn left and continue straight on to the Pont Riou.

(9) Follow the road to the right for about 350 m and turn right onto a dirt track. Stay on the track until you reach a junction with a small pond on the left. Turn right and continue close to the Vilaine on your right.

(10) Pass close to the water treatment plant. You’ll reach a tarmac road; continue straight on for about 150 m and turn right to cross the Plessis Beucher business park until you reach the junction with Boulevard de la Liberté. Turn right once, then right again to cross the railway line once more. On the other side, turn right.

(11) Turn left into a park. Follow the path until you reach the car park of a small shopping centre. Cross the footbridge to reach the Parking de la Vilaine (S/E).

Not much of a path. Very wet (best done in dry weather). Very difficult to navigate without a GPS.
If done very early in the morning, you may spot the wildlife that inhabits the forest (I spotted a fox and a doe).

Please note that the route number (37) does not appear at every stage; you may sometimes need to follow a different number (38...). Follow the yellow markings. Some lovely paths through the woodland, but a bit too many roads for my liking. At the end of the route, do pop into Ar Milin Park, especially during the Jardin des Arts festival (for those who aren’t familiar with it, it’s a brilliant way to round off the route),

A lovely walk along the streams.
Make sure you go during the dry season, otherwise the paths may be very muddy.

A lovely route for a jog, half in town and half in the countryside.
Take care, as there are lots of small paths that tend to lead you astray, but it’s easy to get back on track
Thanks for this route
