Route de découverte de Gueberschwihr

Gueberschwihr is a small wine-growing village in the Bas-Rhin. It is best known for its church, which dates back to the Romanesque period. This walking route allows you to explore the village on foot. You can combine this route with a visit to the neighbouring village of Pfaffenheim. The village centre is picturesque, with colourful half-timbered houses and cobbled alleyways. A short detour to the cemetery offers a view over the Alsace plain and the surrounding countryside.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the junction of Rue Neuve and Rue de la Croix.

(S/E) Head out via Rue de la Croix and take a look at the street itself. Then walk up Rue Neuve on the left, go through the gate and enter the village centre. Continue along a cobbled street until you reach the fountain.

(1) Turn right onto Rue Basse. Then leave the Place de la Mairie on your left and take Rue des Forgerons on your right. Continue along this street to the oratory, passing a few vineyards on the way.

(2) Turn round and take the second street on the right, Rue du Nord, towards the cemetery. When you reach the cemetery, turn right to walk past a cultural information board and reach a bench by a cherry tree.

(3) Turn round and walk back along Rue du Nord in the opposite direction. When you reach Place de la Mairie, cross it to the right to reach the Church of Saint-Pantaléon and the Chapel of the Virgin.

(4) Return to Place de la Mairie and take Rue Haute directly opposite. At Rue de la Fontaine, keep straight ahead before turning right. At the next fountain, continue uphill straight ahead along Rue du Schauenberg until you reach a cross and a cultural information panel about the vineyard.

(5) Turn back towards the fountain. Keep to the right onto Rue de la Source. At the junction, take the path on the right to reach a wayside cross. Then turn back and continue straight on along Rue Basse until you reach Rue de la Fontaine.

(1) Return to the car park by taking Rue Neuve on the right (S/E).
