Route of Brault Valley in Quelaines-Saint-Gault

Park in the car park at Place de Stetten.

(S/E) Opposite the École Maurice Carême, turn left onto Boulevard du Stade and follow it as far as the pétanque courts. There, turn right, cross the courts and head towards Rue de Bretagne. Cross this street and head straight on towards the lake. Walk round the lake, following the path on the right to reach a car park.

(1) At the car park, turn right onto Impasse Jeanne Véron and continue straight on to reach Rue François Goussin. At the junction, turn left, then after about a hundred metres, turn right onto Rue Jambe d’Argent. Follow this street all the way to the end until you reach a roundabout. There, head straight ahead, veering slightly to the left, onto Rue du Pont d’Avignon. Follow this street to the end until you reach a junction with Rue du Pont de Millau. Turn right here, then carry on straight ahead until you reach the roundabout.

(2) At the roundabout, cross the road at the pedestrian crossing, then turn right onto Rue de Laval; continue for about fifty metres, then turn left onto a small gravel lane. Follow the lane all the way to the end until you reach Rue du Brault, then turn right. At the next junction, turn right onto Rue des Forges, continue for about 50 metres and, at the next junction, turn left onto Rue du Pont-Neuf. After 50 metres, turn left, then take the right-hand lane at the three-way junction and continue to the end of the housing estate.

(3) There, a sandy path branches off to the right. Take this and carry on straight ahead until you reach Impasse des Noyers. Carry on straight ahead again, then take the gravel path that branches off to the right of house number 17. Follow this path, which leads onto Rue du Petit Saint-Nazaire, and carry on straight ahead. After just over 250 metres, you’ll reach a second junction, where a gravel path lined with hedges branches off to the left.

(4) Turn left onto the path and carry on straight ahead until you reach a small road at a place called Le Bas Houx. Cross the road and carry on straight ahead along the small tarmac road. After about 800 metres, the road takes a 90° bend to the left and a tree-lined path branches off straight ahead at this bend.
Take this path and walk 150 metres to reach a junction.

(5) Turn left and carry on straight ahead until you reach a small tarmac road.

(6) Turn left, then immediately right to join the rural track known as ‘la chaussée’. After 50 metres, turn left, cross the bridge, then follow the path for 300 metres until you come out onto a small tarmac road at the hamlet of La Grande Raudière.

(7) At La Grande Raudière, carry on straight ahead along the small road until you reach a farm at the hamlet of La Petite Raudière. Go round the farm on the left, take the dirt track and carry on straight ahead, crossing the footbridge over the stream, until you come out onto a small tarmac road.

(8) Turn right onto the tarmac road and carry on straight on until you reach a T-junction. There, a path leads straight ahead.

(9) Take this path and carry on straight ahead to rejoin the outbound route.

(5) Follow the route in the opposite direction to return to Rue du Petit Saint-Nazaire.

(4) At the end of the track, go straight on, then turn left at the first junction onto Boulevard Margalet. Continue straight on for a few metres and, at the stop sign opposite the wayside cross, turn right onto Rue du Maine and carry on to the crossroads. Take care of traffic.
At the crossroads, turn left onto the D1 towards Peuton, then at the next junction continue straight on along the D10, still heading towards Peuton. Pass the town hall (on your right) then the post office (on your left) and turn right onto Boulevard du Stade to return to the car park at Place de Stetten. (S/E)

There are plenty of parking spaces available at the start of the walk at Place de Stetten (Boulevard du Stade). In the village, you’ll also find shops (a bakery, a bar-restaurant and a mini-market).
