Puilaurens Castle

An easy hike, partly through the woods, suitable for families. Most of the hike is on a track. You can visit the castle (check opening times). It is closed in winter.

Description of the walk

From Perpignan, take the D117 towards Foix, passing through the village of Puilaurens. At Col Campérié (Campérié rest area on the right of the D117), take the path on the left that passes over the tourist railway line and park further on in the dirt car park.

(S/E) Take the track towards the castle along the Fabournet stream. You will reach the junction with the return path.

(1) Continue left, staying on the track, which climbs steadily. You will reach a hairpin bendwhere you can enjoy a magnificent view of the castle and the valley.

(2) Continue along the track, which offers other views, and turn sharply left before coming out onto the road leading to the castle.

(3) Take it to the left until you reach the entrance to Puilaurens Castle and its picnic area.

(4) Retrace your steps to the end of the track.

(3) Take this track to the left and continue climbing gently uphill through the woods, making several turns, the last of which is a hairpin bend. You will reach the junction for Serre des Aiguilles.

(5) Take the steep path on the right to reach the viewpoint and enjoy the panoramic view of the castle and the valley.

(6) Return to the junction.

(5) Take the track on the right to continue the route.

(7) Turn right onto the discovery trail: information panels are located along the path. Return to the fork you passed on the way there.

(1) Turn left to return to the car park (S/E).

Hello
A very beautiful hike in the forest, almost entirely on trails, very pleasant in the shade (if it's sunny), magnificent views of Puilaurens Castle "from all sides" and the opportunity to visit it (summer and €7 from April to October). Except at the time of my hike, the trail was heavily rutted by forestry machinery. It is logging season.
I must emphasise that it is a very beautiful hike.
