Park in the car park of the Club Vosgien chalet in Ingwiller, which can be reached:
- either by leaving the D28 on the left when leaving Ingwiller towards Rothbach, following the signs for the Club Vosgien chalet,
- or by leaving the D28 on the right at the first sharp bend when leaving Rothbach towards Ingwiller.
Please note that it is also possible to park in the car park of the Seelberg Forest House.
(S/E) Leave the car park on the left and follow the blue rectangle to quickly reach the forest house. At the car park near the forest house, take the path that climbs gently to the left, marked with a blue rectangle/red ring.
(1) Cross the forest path and continue to follow the blue rectangle to reach a plateau before descending to the left.
(2) Cross the forest path, still following the blue rectangle. After a few metres, signs will direct you to the Tierkirchlein via the lower path (on the right) or the upper path (straight ahead). We recommend taking the upper path, which will lead you to the ruins of the Tierkirchlein overlooking a small valley.
(3) After the winding descent, cross the forest path and follow the signs for Tierkirchlein, Yellow Ring, Blue-White-Blue Rectangle to reach the ruins of Tierkirchlein after a few metres.
Go around the ruins on the right, following the Blue Ring, to reach a forest path near a magnificent rock that can be used as a shelter. Follow the Blue Ring path on the left.
(4) Cross the tarmac road and then the stream (bridge) to walk along a series of ponds on the right. After a few hundred metres, take a path marked Green Ring - Blue Ring - Yellow Ring which climbs into a small valley. Then turn left to continue climbing, following a Red Ring.
(5) At a major fork, turn left and then immediately right, following the Blue Ring. Take the chestnut tree path, which will lead you to a viewpoint with an information panel about the Schaenzel. Continue along this path, following the Blue Rectangle, to return to the village of Lichtenberg with the castle in sight.
When you reach the calvary (picnic table), turn right and then immediately left, following the Green Ring.
(6) You will arrive at the castle, which is open to visitors. Go around the castle on the right to descend towards the village church. Turn left, still descending, onto the main road, following the red rectangle.
After 400 m, turn left, following the red rectangle.
(7) After a few hundred metres, take the path marked with a red-white-red rectangle that turns sharply left. Please note: my route is correct at this point, but the IGN map is incorrect (April 2021). The path descends gently to a pumping station. Continue to follow the red-white-red rectangle markings.
(8) When you reach aGR® fork, follow the red-white-red rectangle markings on the left.
After a few metres, you have the option of following the yellow round markings, which will take you up to a stele on the Kuehberg before rejoining theGR®.
(9) At the junction of three forest paths forming a triangle, continue to follow theGR® (red-white-red rectangle, red ring) which descends along a path on the right.
(10) Turn right, continuing to follow theGR® (straight ahead, following the red ring, you will soon arrive at the Seelberg forest house). After crossing the stream, the path climbs steeply to the right. Continue to follow theGR® markings until you reach a barrier. Please note that on this last section of the route, you will be crossing private forest land. We recommend that you do not stray from the path.
(11) After the barrier, leave theGR® and turn right towards the Club Vosgien chalet, marked with a blue ring and yellow triangle. Head for the Chalet du Vosgien car park (S/E).
