Around the village of Offwiller

Park in the town hall car park, 34 Rue de la Libération, Offwiller.
Signposting: Yellow Ring and Blue Rectangle.

(S/E) With your back to the town hall, take the path at the far end of the car park between the houses and follow the Yellow Ring signposting.

(1) At the end of the path, turn right onto Rue Rohrei. After the junction with Rue du Cimetière, take the path that runs alongside the cemetery. Follow the path as it climbs back up towards the village. Cross the main road, take Rue Hanau Lichtenberg and enter the forest.

(2) When you see the ruins of the chapel, take the path on the right leading towards them, then go round the chapel by turning right again (Yellow Ring).
At the first junction, continue along the signposted path, leaving the Red Cross on your left.
At the three-way junction, follow the Yellow Ring-marked path to the left (do not head back down towards the village).
At the next junction, carry on straight ahead towards the Schieweschlawe clearing (do not head back down towards the village).

(3) Cross the Schiewesclawe clearing and take the path furthest to the right which leads downhill, still following the Yellow Ring.

(4) At the junction, take the path leading uphill opposite.
Continue along the path (Yellow Ring) which descends to the right, leaving the Blue Disc on your left.
Turn right again to head back down towards the village. Then turn right again towards Rue des Ormes and the first houses in the village. Continue along this street until you reach Rue de la République. Walk down the street for a few metres, staying on the pavement without crossing the road. Be careful not to miss the next junction.

(5) After a few metres along the street, take the small flight of steps on the right and follow the path that runs behind the hedge (marked with a Yellow Ring and a Blue Rectangle).
Walk along the edge of the woodland and admire the view over the rooftops towards the plain.

(4) At the junction with the Yellow Ring signpost (which you passed earlier), take the path on the left marked with a Blue Rectangle. Go down the steps leading into the village. Continue straight ahead, veering slightly to the left towards the main street. Cross the road and head up the main street to reach the car park (S/E).

Schiewesclawe clearing: the ‘Schiewebarri’ is the annual venue for the ancient tradition of throwing a flaming beech disc, celebrated on the first Sunday of Lent. The large stones allow the disc to bounce before it flies away.
