Departure from the Gruvaz car park, just above the hamlet of the same name.
(S/E) From the car park, return to the hamlet of La Gruvaz. Take thefirst streeton the right and join the first grassy path on the left.
(1) Enter the meadow (wooden sign marked "Parking" in felt-tip pen) and follow it along the edge of the descent to reach a cross-path at the private property. Turn right across the fields, almost horizontally, and at the end you will find the path leading up to the Chalets de Miage.
(2) Turn right, uphill, towards the Chalets de Miage.
The climb is very steep and is the most physically demanding part of the hike. There is shade all along the steep climb.
Cross a first hamlet and reach a fork at a chalet.
(3) Continue straight ahead towards the Chalets de Miage.
The path coming from the left (GR® Tour du Pays du Mont Blanc) comes from Champel, an alternative starting point.
(4) The trees become sparser and you can admire the Chalets de Miage in the distance, overlooked by the torrents that descend from the various glaciers on the Domes de Miage. Continue to the chalets.
(5) At the Chalets de Miage, go around them on the left (ignore the track) and follow the path along the torrent
Ideal for a lunch break: eat at the Chalets de Miage (booking recommended) or have a picnic by the torrents.
Cross the stream and join the track.
Just before the footbridge there are public toilets, and just after the footbridge there is a drinking water source.
(6) Cross the bridge, then leave the track and turn left towards Mont Truc.
The climb is quite steep but much shorter than the one at the start of the hike, and most of it is shaded.
(7) At the pass, turn right for a round trip (20 to 30 minutes) through the mountain pasture. Reach the summit of Mont Truc.
(8) Descend via the same path to the pass.
(7) On your return, continue to the right to the Chalets du Truc. Leave them on your right and continue along the track towards the forest. Follow the track to La Gruvaz.
(9) At the next intersection (picnic table), turn right and continue to the next one.
(10) Ignore the track on the right that leads to the Chalets de Miage and continue downhill. Reach the Gruvaz car park (S/E).
