Castillon and its surroundings

Start from the car park at the Castillon village hall.

(S/E) Walk past the village hall and the vicarage, take the road (south-east) and, at the junction, turn left. Continue along this small road for 400 metres until you reach the hamlet known as ‘les James’. At the junction, turn right (south) towards ‘le Vivier’.

(1) Turn left (east) for 250 metres, then, at the house, take a path (south) for 500 metres.

(2) At the edge of a field, continue along the path, which narrows to the left.

(3) Near a stream (this section may be muddy depending on the season – see practical information), continue along this track until you reach a road (D13) after approximately 1 km 800.

(4) Turn left (east) and follow the D13 for 750 metres until you reach the hamlet of “Les Bourgeois”. A few dozen metres past a Michelin marker labelled D13-16 and the sign indicating the cycle path, turn left onto a small road (north) crossing the hamlet. At the junction 150 metres on, turn right (north-east) and continue for 1.5 km to Saint-Paul-du-Vernay.

(5) At the junction, cross the road (D99) to take a path running alongside the cemetery. At the end of the path, continue on the D99a towards Juaye-Mondaye.

(6) 500 metres after the hamlet known as ‘le Triage des Chasseurs’, as you emerge from the wooded area, take a dirt track on the left (west). At the Gallis crossroads, turn right (north-north-west) towards C1-Noron-la-Poterie.

(7) 60 metres past the “La Vente Lucas” sign, take the track on the left (west). At the place known as “Les Aublets”, the track joins a road; continue along this road. At the T-junction with another road, turn right.

(8) 70 metres further on, at the three-way junction, turn left towards “le Douétil”

(9) Take the path on the left (south) at the stone house. 600 metres further on, at a small farm, the path joins a small tarmac road. Follow this to the place known as “Les James”; at the crossroads, turn right and follow the road up to the village hall car park (S/E).

(3) If this section is too muddy, turn back about a hundred metres towards the entrance to the field (2), enter this field and follow the hedge which runs alongside the path but is raised between (2) and (3), exit via a gap in the hedge which leads back down to the path at point (3), then continue as described.

This walk is a route I have devised myself; although some sections of the route may follow signposted paths, this is not the case for the entire route, so you must rely on the route description and the map.
