Cascade des Anglais via the GR®20 alternative route

A very family-friendly walk with fabulous pools halfway along the route. Option to do the treetop adventure park on the way back.

Description of the walk

The route starts along the T20 road. To get there, head to the La Foce area, 800 m north of the Col de Vizzavona. Park in the tarmac car park at La Foce or in a space along the road.

(S/E) Opposite the building and on the other side of the road, take a path leading into the forest and climb up to the castle ruins.

(1) Once you reach the ruins, the path veers off to the right, descending slightly. Cross theGR®20and continue straight on over rocky slabs until you reach the junction for the Cascade des Anglais.

(2) Continue towards the Agnone and reach the waterfall, which is very busy. For a quieter experience, it is best to head up to the waterfalls upstream of the Agnone. To do this, return to theGR®20and turn right towards the climb. You will reach a series of waterfalls where you can cool off and relax in pools carved into the rock.

Head back down theGR®20to the junction.
Follow the Agnone on the right bank via theGR®20. Just before you see a footbridge, there is a 3-metre drop into a deep pool.

(3) Walk past the footbridge crossing the Agnone and past a small snack bar. Continue past a tree-top adventure course and walk along a wide path to approach the T20 road

(4) Take a path on the right to avoid walking along the busy road and return to the car park (S/E).

A very beautiful hike with superb scenery. The short section of the GR20 is a bit steep, but it's worth it!

The "La Foce" car park is still there, but there is a large car park at the pass, which is very convenient

A nice circular loop, but:
- the start is a bit tricky to find (no signs on site; the path is right in front of the hotel but very few people take it in this direction; everyone starts the circular route either at the adventure park 250m further down – and therefore in the opposite direction – or via the GR20 trail at the Col de Vizzavona 500m further up), but the direction of the circular route is interesting. Otherwise, unless you’re averse to flat terrain, a return trip via the adventure park is undoubtedly the best option, as it follows the river all the way.
- The addition of the GR20 above the waterfall adds absolutely nothing to the hike; it’s a complete waste of time and energy… it should be removed from the route!! In other words, “once you reach the waterfall, enjoy the spot and then head down via the GR20, following the river to the right towards the adventure park.” That would be simpler and much better!

Alternative route: Starting from the Col de Vizzanova, we ended up continuing on to the Tortetto footbridge. The climb is tricky over the scree at the start, but it gets easier after that. It takes about 3 hours there and back with beginners.
From time to time, leave the path to get closer to the stream with its superb pools, but be careful as it’s very steep.
It’s a popular route as it’s part of the GR20.
A pleasant outing in September (no blazing sun).
