Description of the walk

Park at the Col de Vizzavona.

(S) From the car park, take the path northwards to the start of the circular Boucle des Cascades des Anglais to reach the fort. Go behind the fort and take the path on the left.

(1) At the crossroads, turn left (signposted "relay stopover lodge") and continue following the red and white markings. (On the right, the path leads to the beautiful Cascade des Anglais waterfall, where you can stop on your way back).

(2) After a good kilometre, at the crossroads, pay close attention, as you need to leave the marked trail and turn left to find the Bergeries de Porteto trail. There are no markings, so look out for the cairns. A few metres further up, a huge tree trunk blocks the path. Step over it and you will find the sheepfolds just above.

(3) At the sheepfolds, 1 metre below, there is a spring.
Return via the same path to get back to the car park (S/E).

A pretty round sheepfold in a beautiful mountain setting. As the hike was very short, we extended it by starting from Vizzavona station and following the GR trail. For the return trip, we climbed up to the ridge via the mule track and then descended towards the castle ruins, before taking the Anglais waterfall trail to the footbridge and heading towards the station. A total of 14 km and 620 m of ascent, a lovely circular. So, a suggested alternative for this destination.

A lovely, easy walk. On the way back, we passed by the English waterfall, which added to the enjoyment of this hike.

A very beautiful hike. Alternating between forest and riverbed. The option to continue on to the Tortetto footbridge is definitely worth it. Good footwear is essential and walking sticks are very useful. You will need to use your hands from time to time.

A beautiful hike that is quite physically demanding given the elevation gain and linear distance. Superb waterfalls and fabulous scenery. No trouble finding the sheepfolds (the tree trunk across the path before arriving has been cleared). Thank you for the description.

A very nice hike. We set off from Vizzavona station, which added an extra hour to the journey.
We had a bit of trouble finding the path that goes up to the sheepfolds. It's between two huge rocks that you climb to follow the GR trail.
The sheepfolds are in very good condition and apparently still in use, although we didn't see anyone except some very pretty sows feasting on beechnuts (the fruit of the beech tree).

A pleasant hike that allows you to experience a small sample of the GR20 once you leave the crowds at the Cascade des Anglais waterfall.
The sheepfold is in a picturesque setting, but there are more walkers who come here to relax than shepherds.

This hike along the Agnone River is at its best from late May to around 20 June, when the ice melts on Monte d'Oro and Punta Migliarello. You can see some beautiful waterfalls as you follow the course of the river. A must-do.
