Carnon Downs to Devoran Circular

The walk starts in a car park near the Travelodge, a small parking area nearest the main road, there are no parking restrictions (at the time of writing).

The walk follows designated footpaths, country roads, and crosses a main road.

The walk has been rated as 'Moderate' due to the walk back up the hill to finish. Timing is only a guide, and time should added for height gain, and exploring the area.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From the car park, head West ( the designated path is routed around the back of the Motel), the route to Quench Well (1) follows a designated route. There is a junction where designated routes merge, continue on a north west direction 750m to the Well.

(1) Quench Well, turn left into the lane and straight across the road. After 400m turn right, with designated route to lane.

(2) Turn left and walk along the Country Lane for 1km to the Ford, crossing the road and onto the river.

(3) The Carnon river and the 'Coast to Coast' path, following the river downstream, passing by the old viaducts, under the main road to the road crossing ( Note: The bus stop).

(4) Crossing the road onto Devoran, follow the road to the quay, and Tallack Creek.

[Options to continue with the route or return to the bus stop, back up to Carnon Down, and the car park, it will be near the top of the hill]

(5) At Tallack Creek, pick up the trail to your left, up through the valley; it is a steady climb back to the start. After 1.2km cross the road bridge.

(6) Entering the built-up area of Carnon Down, continue following the road up, meeting the main road, and continue up to the car park.(S/E)

Practical information

A circular walk downhill to Carnon Valley, following the old train track to Devoran

Ensure to keep hydrated, it is a climb back up to the start

If the walk has become too arduous, at the start of Devoran (4) on the main road is a bus stop, with a frequent Service, heading for Truro.
