Description of the walk

Park your car at Gerrans & St Mawes United Football Club in Halwartha next to the football field.

(S/E) From the entrance, turn left onto the road heading to the main crossroads. Turn left onto Windmill Hill road for 100 metres until you bear right onto the driveway (public footpath signpost). Go past houses, then a farm until you reach a private gate and a cattle grid.

(1) Bear right (white arrow) onto this narrow path in woods (can be slippery when wet!), go down a few steps leading to a stile next to Porth Creek. Go through it, turn right and follow yellow arrows climbing a short section (but pretty steep) with handrail.

(2) At the fork, bear left, go through another stile and walk along River Percuil until you reach Freshwater Boatyard. Ascend the road on your right for 50 metres, then turn left onto the narrow public footpath between private properties.

(3) The path leads to Polvarth Boatyard. Turn right ascending Polvarth Lane (public footpath to St Mawes) until you reach the main road. Bear left onto Tredenham Road, walk along the pavement leading to the seafront and St Mawes (you can see Pendennis Point on clear days as well!).

(4) You enter St Mawes, go past the harbour and pubs, then continue along the coast until you reach St Mawes Castle built by Henry VIII as part of the national coastal defence program (16th century). Turn left heading down to Castle Drive and go past Cliff House. When you enter the coastal path, go straight ignoring a path which goes up to your right.

(5) Continue for almost 1 mile, climb a few rocky steps (low wall) and immediately head to the path which goes up to your right in the grove (brown arrow). Ascend the steep path (then blue arrow) until you reach the main road. Bear right onto the main road and again right at crossroads (follow Lamorran Gardens signpost) until you reach the car park.(S/E)
