Description of the walk

(S/E) Start at the Lemon Inn >>>, heading south, cross the road, over the bridge to the mini roundabout. The route follows the pavement around the park (Waterings Road), with an option to walk through the park. Dogs are not allowed. Keep on the left-hand side, and stay on the pavement, until it ends. Continue in the same direction, cross the lane to face the traffic, and continue up the hill. At the top, another lane joins from the right and veers left, with a gate on the left.

(1) Cross the lane and enter through the gate, follow the path down through the wooded valley, to the bottom, where the path turns to a track, by a remote dwelling. The track meets a country lane.

(2) Turn right at the land and head, initially southeasterly, then to the east along Church Road. The lane will come out opposite the St Mylor's Church memorial and lynch gate.

(3) Walk through the churchyard (A) then out the lower gate to the marina (B). After visiting the marina retrace the route back back, following the lane northwesterly. Keep on this lane and continue past (2), it will lead back towards the houses.

(4) Bear right back onto the pavement along Waterings Road, or through the park back to (S/E).

Worth a visit

(A) The Church and Churchyard

Memorial to HMS Ganges -This was erected by the boys of the Naval Training Ship of that name in 1872. The names of 51 boys are recorded here, with an average age of 16, they died of disease or accident, a sad reminder of the harshness of life under naval training in Victorian times. Established in 1865, HMS Ganges left Mylor in 1899, and following a refit was based at Harwich, then Southampton. Members of the Ganges association make an annual pilgrimage to St Mylor Church on Remembrance Day when wreaths are laid at the memorial.

St Mylor Holy Well -This spring of water was possibly the site of baptism for the earliest Christians here. Water from the well has also been used for baptism services in the church.
