Cantine de la Barmaz - Auberge de Salanfe

After this detour on the Tour des Dents Blanches, you will rejoin the Tour des Dents du Midi and finish at the Auberge de Salanfe. Along the route, you will come across the Sauflaz, which you will overlook at the Pas d'Encel via a passage equipped with chains. In the Vallon de Susanfe, you can admire the Ruan massif. At the Col de Susanfe, you can contemplate the Haute Cime and the Dent Jaune. Further on, you will notice the Refuge des Dents du Midi.

Signposting Alpenpässe-Weg No. 6

(S) From the Cantine de la Barmaz, take the small road heading east. At the first crossroads, after a stream, turn right. Climb gradually towards the Signal de Bonavau. Reach a small pass.

(1) Descend to the Bonavau refuge.

(2) Follow the signs for Susanfe, pass a chalet (altitude 1,552 m), stay on trail No. 6 heading south, cross several streams and rejoin the fork with the TDM (altitude 1,543 m)

(3) Keep right towards Susanfe, after a few hairpin bends, head eastwards into the rocks. The trail plunges into the Sauflaz Gorge. It is quite exposed but equipped with chains.

(4) Cross the Pas d'Encel and continue until you reach a footbridge over the Sauflaz.

(5) Cross the Sauflaz on the footbridge and climb up the other bank to a small dam and a lake on the Saufflaz. Set off between the dam and the small building towards Susanfe. After a few hairpin bends, enter the long Susanfe valley at the foot of the Mont Ruan massif. Head for the Susanfe hut.

(6) Begin the climb to the Col de Susanfe. Continue along the right bank of the Sauflaz and turn right to complete the ascent to the pass.

(7) At the pass, head north to find a signpost and follow trail No. 6 towards Salanfe. Begin the long descent to an elevation of 1,930 metres overlooking Lake Salanfe, where you will cross the path around the lake.

(8) Continue eastwards along the lake and arrive at the Salanfe inn (E).

This stage of the route uses part of the Tour des Dents du Midi trail (TDM) and part of the Alpenpässe Weg trail. At each major junction on the TDM or Alpenpässe Weg, you will find signposts with a green sticker indicating these tours.
