Take the D5 at Ensuès-La-Redonne and head towards Port du Rouet via Avenue du Vallon de l'Aigle. Park in the Rouet Plage car park (paying during the summer season).
(S/E) Head east (beach on your right) and walk about 450 metres along Avenue Blanche Calvet, then Chemin des Eaux Salées. You will come to some steps on your right.
(1) Climb the steps to reach the esplanade of the Notre-Dame du Rouet chapel. Visit the site, then retrace your steps.
(1) Turn right, then immediately left onto the DFCI CB111 track. Do not take the track, but pass to the right of the fence and follow the light blue marked path which descends to the right towards the east, runs alongside the railway line and arrives at the Calanque des Eaux Salées under the magnificent viaduct. Notice the sea water springs emerging from the pebbles. Admire the landscape. Pass under the viaduct and climb the numerous stone steps.
(2) Turn left onto the light blue marked trail. Further on, turn left at a Y-junction marked in light blue. Keep to the left and you will come to a junction with a track and a signpost.
(3) Continue straight ahead towards the Plaine du Bon Jean. After a sharp right turn, you will come to another signpost.
(4) Turn left onto the narrow path towards Bon Jean. After a rocky descent, you will arrive near the D5 road. Follow it on the left for about 150 metres, towards Plaine du Bon Jean, as indicated on a sign.
(5) Cross the road carefully and follow the unmarked but clearly visible path. This path winds its way northwards through the Vallon du Bon Jean. Go through a tunnel under the D9 dual carriageway at elevation 107. On the other side, the path continues to the left through vegetation that has been spared from fires. You will arrive at a Y-junction at elevation 106.
(6) Turn left and continue west. You will arrive at the foot of a high-voltage pylon and a crossroads.
(7) Turn left, then continue straight ahead south towards an underground cistern no. 341 at elevation 165. Pick up the track further down and arrive at a Y-shaped crossroads at elevation 132.
(8) Turn left towards Bon Jean, then further on, keep left in the same direction. You will see the coastline. You will arrive at a Y-junction.
(9) Turn left towards Vallon de Jaume, marked in yellow and blue. Pass by the valley's AOC olive grove, then arrive at the tunnel under the D9 at elevation 80. Pass through the barrier.
(10) Turn left and continue downhill into Vallon de Jaume. The path is narrow but easy to follow. After about 650 m, you will see a cavity carved into the rock on the left with old concrete structures.
(11) Turn left onto the path that runs alongside the cavity and walk for about 150 m. You will come to a Y-junction.
(12) Turn right onto an unmarked and barely visible path, heading south then south-west (GPS recommended). Ignore the paths to the left and right and keep going straight ahead. You will arrive above a rock face.
(13) Descendcarefully, using your hands to help you over some rocks, and you will see the Rouet cave on your left. Explore the site and then turn back.
(13) Keep to the left, follow the ridge and you will soon reach a roundabout and some houses. Descend the steep tarmac road of Montée de la Grotte and return to the starting point of the hike (S/E).
