Cabane des Dix - Arolla

The starting point for this stage is at the Cabane des Dix

Markings: Alpenpässe Weg green vignettes No. 6 - Chamonix Zermatt - (White-Red-White markings)

(S) From the Cabane des Dix, return to the intersection towards the Col de Riedmatten and the Pas de Chèvres via the path taken the day before.

(1) Turn right and go around the Cheilon glacier tongue. Walk along the moraines left by this glacier until you reach a fork.

(2) At this point, you can choose to go via the Col de Riedmatten or the Pas de Chèvres (see the Practical Information section to help you decide). Pas de Chèvres option: heading south, follow the path through large scree to reach the foot of the Pas de Chèvres ladders.

(3) Take great care when climbing the Pas de Chèvres ladders. Once you reach the pass, begin the descent and rejoin the path coming from the Col de Riedmatten.

(4) Walk through the Arolla valley, enjoying the superb views of the Pigne d'Arolla and Mont Colmb. Join a track suitable for vehicles and follow it to a signpost.

(5) Turn right and stay on path No. 6 until you reach the entrance to the village of Arolla. Come out onto the road that crosses the village

(6) At the bend, turn left onto Rue de l'Evêque and quickly return to the Hôtel des Glaciers, your accommodation for the night (E).

Pas de Chèvres or Col de Riedmaten?

To switch to the Arolla side, there are two options when you reach the point (2). Personally, I have taken the Pas de Chèvres twice on the way up, once on the way down, and never the Col de Riedmatten.
