Circular via Le Bugue and Saint-Cirq

This challenging (red) circular mainly explores Le Bugue, a village in the Vézère Valley, in the heart of the Périgord Noir region of the Dordogne. The route passes close to prehistoric sites, such as the Ferrassie prehistoric site and the Sorcier Cave (closed to the public).

Description of the route

Departure from the motorhome area, Allée de la Vézère.

Mountain bike signpost no. 2

(S/E) Go back up the main road and turn right to cross the bridge.

(1) At the roundabout, turn right, then take the first left onto Rue de la Faure and continue to Impasse de la Brandière on the left.

(2) Take this road, continue to the end, and continue along the path. At the end of the path, go straight past the rubbish bins.

(3) Take the tree-lined path on the left. When you reach the junction with Route de la Cluze, continue straight ahead on the tarmac road, Allée des Chèvrefeuilles, then turn right and you will soon reach the Stop sign.

(4) Continue straight ahead, taking the path to the left of No. 794. At the end, turn left into the forest, then right, and follow the path to the tarmac road.

(5) Continue straight ahead on the road and, at the first bend, continue straight ahead on the gravel road. Continue straight ahead until you reach Chemin du Manoir on the left.

(6) Take this road (ignore the "all directions" sign), then turn left again onto Chemin de la Pêche until you reach a dirt track on the right.

(7) Turn right before the houses.

(8) At the tarmac road, go straight ahead towards Les Plagnes and continue straight on, even when the road becomes a gravel track. Pass in front of the house and continue to the end of Route des Plagnes.

(9) Turn right, downhill, then left, and you will reach a forest path.

(10) Turn left onto the track and continue until you reach the main road.

(11) Follow the main road to the left, then immediately turn right towards La Queyrelie, and you will soon reach a fork in the road.

(12) Continue left on the path until you reach a small tarmac road.

(13) Continue straight ahead on the path towards Lomple, then turn right at the fork and descend to the next fork.

(14) Turn left, then left again at the next junction.

(15) Pass between the houses in Vialette and turn right at the fork.

(16) At the end of the gravel path, turn left onto the road.

(17) At the junction of the two roads, continue to the right, then continue to the left on the path (wooden hiking signs at the corner) to the hamlet of La Ferrassie.

(18) Turn left into the lane and continue along the path until you reach the road.

(19) Turn left, then right onto the grassy path next to the wash house. Continue until you reach the next road.

(20) Continue left, then take the first road on the left towards La Mouthe.

(21) At the crossroads, turn left onto Chemin du Berger, then, in the bend, leave the tarmac and take the path on the left.

(22) At the end of the path, turn right to rejoin the road, and keep left into Impasse de la Font. At the end, continue on the left and head towards the hamlet of Cumont.

(23) Turn left at the cross, then stay on the left and continue to No. 1771.

(24) Take the path on the right, pass the antenna and arrive at an intersection.

(25) At the crossroads, continue straight on to the hamlet of Ladouch.

(26) Continue left, then take the path on the right between the houses.

(27) At the end of the path, continue straight ahead on the road.

(28) At the stop sign, turn right and ignore the sign for the Maillerie cemetery.

(29) At the stop sign, turn left towards Le Bugue and continue to the roundabout.

(1) Turn right, cross the bridge, and turn left to reach the motorhome area (S/E).
