Description of the walk

Parking at the entrance to the village of Mayronnes.

(S/E) Join the trail at the bottom of the car park, cross the ford and follow the path marked with both Sentier Sculptural andGR®36signs on the right.

(1) Leave the sculpture trail on your left and continue along the track until you reach a sharp bend to the left, then stay on the track.

(2) Just after this bend, take the old mule track on the right: small wooden bridge and signpost "Sentier panoramique" (Panoramic Trail). The path climbs through the undergrowth. Cross the firebreak for the first time and continue straight up the mule track. Join the firebreak again at Pas de la Serre, take the track on the right and follow it. Lovely view of the Corbières.

(3) Leave the track that descends gently to the right and take the mule track that branches off slightly to the left as it climbs. Caution: the path is not very visible. Continue climbing for a while through the undergrowth. Pass Roc Troué. Follow the track to Serre de la Pène. Once you reach the plateau, follow the marked path, where cairns indicate the direction to follow.

(4) Leave a path on the right and turn left onto the trail that continues through the vegetation and descends towards Pech de Fel.

(5) Turn left onto the path and continue downhill until you reach theGR®36.

(6) Cross it and take the track opposite, which descends towards Dairy Farm Carrus, which is signposted.
Descend along the meadows, cross the dairy farm and, after the buildings, turn left onto the road. Please note: during the season, there are goats and sheepdogs roaming freely. Picnic tables are available.

(7) Yellow markings. Just after the stream, leave the road and turn right onto the path. Continue until you reach the road. Cross it and continue on the path that climbs opposite. Cross the road again and take the panoramic path opposite, which continues to climb.

(8) Yellow markings. Turn left, the path makes an almost U-turn. Continue climbing and follow this path uphill. Reach the road and cross it to the right.

(9) Join the path at the foot of the ruins at Champ de l'Œil (sign). Follow the Serrat de la Bouzole path.

(10) At Serrat de la Bouzole, take the path on the left to reach Mayronnes.

(11) Return to theGR®36, turn right and descend via the track. You will pass along part of the Mayronnes sculpture trail.

(12) Continue right on theGR®36and the Sculpture Trail in reverse, which descends steeply towards Mayronnes. Join the track at the bottom and then the car park.

(1) Turn right onto theGR® 36 towards the car park (S/E).

A beautiful hike offering superb views of the Corbières region. The trails are very pleasant to follow despite a fairly significant elevation gain; you need to be in good physical condition.
Be careful at the fords at the start and finish if it has been raining in the previous days: you may get your feet wet if you don't have waterproof shoes.

A very pleasant hike in sunny weather with beautiful views of the Corbières and even the Pyrenees when you reach the ridge of Pech de Fel. It's a route far from the crowds :-).
As for the route, we missed the turn-off at point 4, but we found it again without too much difficulty.

Magnificent hike along the trail through the woods.
Stunning panoramic views of the Corbières and Pyrenees.
There are almost no markings, so the route mapped by Visorando is very useful.
There were no hunters in the route area. Still, remember to wear an orange vest.

A good warm-up for my 75th birthday, didn't see anyone except in the 'sculpture' section.
Foggy in the morning, so the view wasn't great.

A lovely walk, not very difficult! Well signposted.
But luckily the weather had been dry for several days, because the ground is quite muddy in places.
Apart from two or three hunters, we didn't meet anyone.
When we passed through the hamlet of Carrus, the two farm dogs decided to accompany us to the car park where we started. They seemed determined to leave with us, so we called their owner (04 68 43 12 37) to come and collect them.

Some passages tend to close up due to low traffic and vegetation growth.
A lovely hike with beautiful views.

Well-marked circular (useful yellow markings and/or cairns). Beautiful panoramic views. Rich variety of flowers at this time of year. 4½-hour hike.

3) Trail difficult to find, overgrown with shrubs.
4) Same as above, I added cairns to make it easier to find.
Beautiful weather, with ideal visibility to see the surrounding mountains.
It's a lovely walk.

A two-day route with wild camping two-thirds of the way around the circular, at the end of February 2021 with mediocre but not rainy weather, a little windy.

The circular is very pretty and varied... thank you to the creator! The climbs are not hard or long. It is not physically difficult. Superb and varied landscape. The path is sometimes a little overgrown (not much traffic) but nothing too bothersome. Yellow markings almost all the way... difficult to get lost (but we had the GPX, so impossible to get lost in this case!). The end with the "sculptural" trail is original but quite muddy at this time of year.

At the start, there are lots and lots of vultures (it's a reserve)... magnificent! Then there are lots of traces of wild boar (turned earth)... Clearly, there is wildlife in this area. Lots of animal tracks everywhere.

I think most of the path must be shaded in summer.

No water source. Only two rivers at the bottom of the valley (filtration recommended) and, above all, the farm (Carrus dairy farm) can supply water. Camping between points 8 and 9 (but no water, we carried 6 litres for two people for two days).

It took us about 4.5 hours excluding breaks... but we made lots of stops of varying lengths (including one long nap and one night in a tent)... so we never got tired. However, we were each carrying about 8-10 kg (tent, sleeping bags, stove, food, etc.).

The dog from the Carrus dairy farm accompanied us from the dairy farm to Mayronnes and slept next to the tent... except that he sniffed out nearby game and barked as he chased it away... a bit annoying at night ;-)

In short: Great! We'll be back. Thank you to the organiser of this circular.
