The car park is located at the former CFD (Chemins de Fer Départementaux) railway station, route de Lamastre, in Le Cheylard.
(S/E) From the starting point, head to Avenue de la Gare and follow it to the left until you reach the junction with the tarmac road to Saint-Jean Roure.
(1) Turn right, ignore the two roads on the right and continue to a place called L'Hoste.
Markings are 5 cm round yellow paint circles.
(2) Take the path on the left that passes above the campsite and the Cheylard lake to arrive near the bourgeois house of La Gardette via a magnificent paved slanting street and passages through box trees, ignoring the newly created private track on the left.
(3) Leave the dirt track on the right and take the path opposite, to the right of the small stone tower. After two small hairpin bends, you will come back onto the dirt track. Follow it for about 15 metres to the left, then take the newly cleared path on the right for about 200 metres, cutting across an access track to the meadow of La Blache farm. Take the dirt track on the right again to reach a fork in the tracks where, opposite you, stands the Rocher de Brion, a UNESCO-listed geological site.
(4) Take the track on the right for about 50 metres. Then take the path on the left, opposite the private track with the prohibition signs, and follow it to reach the small tarmac road to Maleval.
(5) Turn left onto this small road and follow it to the pretty hamlet of Maleval.
(6) Take the track on the right that climbs in an "S" shape, then take the track climbing on the left, which then becomes a path along the contour line. Cross the Liard stream before reaching the hamlet of Darne Bessac.
No more markings.
(7) Leave the marked trail descending to the left and take the small paved road opposite to reach the magnificent waterfalls of the Latte and Devès streams, then the hamlet of Nant Paillez.
(8) Take theGR®420A(white and red markings), a path ascending to the right.
(9) Leave your route and turn right to visit the ancient Château de Rochebonne, built around the 11th century and listed since 1936. After your visit, return to the previous point.
(9) Leave the GR® and follow the path opposite. Take the path on the right above the hamlet of stream to reach the small tarmac road of Les Blaches.
(10) Follow it to the left and pass above the Maison des Blaches. At the hairpin bend, leave the road and follow the path straight ahead downhill to the hairpin bend.
(11) Take the path downhill to the left, then to the right at the next hairpin bend. Continue to the car park of the retirement home and Château Lavis to reach the Dolce Via.
(12) Take it to the left, then turn right at the first intersection to arrive at a place called La Condamine, where it joins the GR®420A.
(13) Continue straight ahead on the Dolce Via to Le Cheylard. Pass under the bridge over the Eyrieux river, then continue straight ahead to return to your starting point (S/E).
It seems that there have been some changes to the path in certain places (either by local farmers or by those responsible for signposting).
But overall, we managed to find our way and it did not detract from the enjoyment of this beautiful route, which is ideal for a day out.
Thank you and well done to the volunteers and/or local authorities who mark the trail on site and provide the online description.
