Start from the car park in front of the castle.
(S/E) Take the steps at the far end of the viewpoint and head down to the village.
(1) At the bottom of the steps, turn left and cross the bridges, continuing straight ahead.
(2) As you come off the last bridge, look out for the Voie Verte on your left – this is the route you’ll take back – and carry on straight ahead until you come to a path on the left.
(3) Take this path and head towards the woods. Cross over the railway line and carry on straight ahead until you reach the D100.
(4) Cross the road carefully and take the path opposite, which is slightly to the right. Carry on straight ahead until you reach a clear four-way junction in the middle of the fields.
(5) Turn left, cross the small road and carry on straight ahead until you reach the junction where the D950 and D123 meet.
(6) Carry on in the same direction, pass the château on your right, and head down to the village of Mailly-la-Ville.
(7) Turn slightly left onto Rue du Ravin, cross a road (Route du Parc) and, opposite, to the right of No. 13, take the small path which leads to an alleyway opening onto the canal and the Voie Verte.
(8) Turn left, towards the campsite and the lock. Pass the lock and continue along the canal for a few kilometres (a shaded stretch in summer!). Pass another lock, go under the railway line and carry on to the first bridge at Mailly-le-Château.
(2) Leave the canal and turn right to follow the same route as on the way there, heading back up to the castle (S/E).
