Description of the walk

Park at Arcy-sur-Cure station.

(S/E) With your back to the station, take the path on the left for about 200 m; you are now on theGR®13A (white and red markings).

(1) Take the pedestrian crossing on your left to cross the railway line. Continue on theGR® which you will follow to Nailly and Saint-Moré.

(2) On the Nailly plateau, turn right, staying on the GR®.

(3) Take the time to turn right for a short detour to the Cure viewpoint and continue on to the old oak tree of Saint-Moré, which has been growing for centuries in this rather unusual environment.

(4) After this lovely break, retrace your steps back to the plateau.

(3) Continue alongthe GR® trail, turning right. You are now in the undergrowth and descend towards Nailly, which you cross via its main street until you reach the D606.

(5) Cross at the pedestrian crossing, then cross the Cure on a beautiful stone bridge, staying onthe GR®. Continue and cross the village to reach the square where the church and town hall are located.

(6) Turn right onto theGR®13, which you will leave after the level crossing. Continue straight ahead to leave the village and start climbing a hill.

(7) At a left-hand bend in the road, take the gravel municipal road on the right and rejoin theGR® and, at the same time, the Way of St James.

(8) Continue to the left; you are now on your way to cross the Forest of Saint-Moré towards La Roche Taillée. Pass the site and come out onto a white path.

(9) Follow this path, turning right. After 800 metres, keep left at the fork to reach Val-Sainte-Marie, a very pretty hamlet with the Manoir de Chastenay in the centre on your left.

(10) Continue straight ahead. In the left-hand bend, follow the small lane on the right to reach Arcy-sur-Cure, passing by the foot of the castle. Follow the D237 (Rue du Château) on the right, crossing the beautiful bridge over the Cure.

(11) At the end of Rue du Pont, turn right onto Rue du Gué and continue to the last houses. Turn left onto Rue de la Haie-Vive and, in the bend, take a slight right into a very small lane that will take you to the D606.
Cross at the pedestrian crossing and continue straight ahead on Avenue de la Gare to return to the starting point (S/E).

During this hike after Saint Moré in the woods towards Arcy, it is worth making a short detour to the carved rock, about 200 metres away.

For this second visit, I followed the advice in the comments and changed the route to go past the caves. It is definitely much more interesting to take this option.

Beautiful hike. But trees across the path, not maintained. Signs on the ground at the level of the carved rock. We also visited the Pere Leleu caves. Magnificent! Worth doing again.

A beautiful hike, with two variations that we tried:
We set off from Saint Moré (point 6), parked in front of the church, where there is a very nice bar and restaurant.
From there, we began our hike by following the GR trail, which runs alongside the railway line to La Cure, then climbed up to join the suggested trail.
At the fork in the carved stone (between points 8 and 9), we went to the carved stone. At this point, there is an alternative route, but be careful as the slope is very steep, so if you are not comfortable, go back up and take the planned route. However, if you are familiar with steep slopes, go ahead. You will arrive at the edge of the Cure. On the descent, you will pass a first cavity, then when you reach the edge of the Cure, turn left and discover all the caves... it's just magnificent. In Arcy sur Cure, there is a small bakery/mini-market for those who need a quick snack... and then you climb back up the other side of the Cure.
When you reach point 3, be sure to visit the Grand Chène de Saint Moré at point 4, where there is a small bench for picnics.
Then we went back down to St Moré. As an extra option, visit the ancient camp of Cora, still starting from the church of Saint Moré, and return to the bar-restaurant in front of the church (very friendly welcome, we had dessert and coffee to finish, it was perfect).

The route took place on a Saturday when it was overcast, damp and almost drizzly. A few hikers were walking to the old oak tree and back in the opposite direction to me.
The path is easily passable. I recommend taking the path downhill towards the carved rock, where sarcophagi were extracted.
In this part of the woods, the moss appeared fluorescent green with varying luminous effects.
A beautiful hike, mostly shaded.
I recommend it.
