Between river and canal: a picturesque circular route starting from Bazarnes

The route starts from the car park at the Bazarnes playground: an ideal spot for a picnic or for the children on the way back.

(S/E) Take the path on the other side of the road towards the banks of the Yonne.

(1) Follow the path alongside the Yonne, taking time to admire the reflections on the river and the riverside vegetation. The path winds gently through the trees before leading to the bridge over the Canal du Nivernais, which you’ll need to cross to reach the towpath, which also forms part of the Greenway.

(2) The scenery changes, giving way to the soothing geometry of the canal, punctuated by its characteristic locks. Continue along the Greenway to the left, enjoying the smooth flow of the route.

(3) Leave the water’s edge at the bridge and follow the D439 to the left to begin your return journey towards the Bazarnes playground (S/E).

Equipment

Walking shoes or trainers are sufficient, as the route is smooth and relatively flat.

Suitable for cycling or for families with a pushchair.
