Circular route between Vitrac and Domme

Park in the car park of the pretty little church in Vitrac. If there are no spaces left in this car park, you can park in the town hall car park.

(S/E) Leave the church car park via the small staircase leading down to the valley. Turn right towards the cul-de-sac, then left at the École Buissonnière, following the red and white^GR® markings. Go down the dirt track through the woods and when you reach a road, turn right.

(1) Opposite No. 187, take the road on the left. Cross the car park where there is a canoe launch. Turn right and take a footbridge. At the hotel-restaurant, turn left and follow the D46 on the left. At the crossroads immediately ahead, go straight on to a roundabout.

(2) Then turn left and take the bridge over the Dordogne. At the crossroads on the other side, turn right towards "Périgord Aventure Loisirs" following the^GR®. Go straight ahead, past the canoe base car park and continue along a stabilised path. Pass the Perpetuum campsite.

(3) After the campsite, turn right towards Domme, following the^{GR® trail.} You will soon reach the Dordogne river and follow it on your right.

(4) When you reach the Griffouille electricity substation, turn left onto the D50 road, still following the^GR® (take care).

(5) At the rubbish bins, turn right onto the path that climbs through the woods, following the^GR®. After a shaded climb, you will come out at the large car park in Domme. Continue along the path under the oak trees, pass under a stone bridge and continue straight ahead.

(6) Pass through the Porte des Tours gate, then first turn left then right to follow Rue de la Porte des Tours. Take the second right, Grande Rue, and climb up to an esplanade overlooking a viewpoint.

(7) Return to the village by following Rue Pontcarral on the right. After a few dozen metres, turn left onto Rue Taillefer. Cross Place de la Halle and continue straight on Rue Marguerite Mazet. At the crossroads with Rue de la Chapellenie and Rue René Carmille, follow the street slightly to the right, which leads to Porte del Bos.

(8) Go under the gate and turn left onto Route du Capiol. When the road turns right, continue straight ahead onto Impasse des Fontaines. Immediately take a path on the left and then another path that descends to the right. Pass a football pitch on the left and join a road (wash house).

(9) Follow the road to the right (plane tree dating from 1750). At the crossroads, go straight ahead, cross Place Thermidor and then turn left into Impasse de Domme Vieille. At the crossroads, turn left into Route du Capiol. You will come out onto the main street (Rue de la République) and follow it to the right.

(10) At the roundabout, go straight ahead towards Sarlat on the D46. Then leave the^GR® trail on your left and continue straight ahead to cross the Dordogne river again. Be careful, as the hard shoulder is narrow after the bridge and there is heavy traffic. Leave the D703 on your left and continue carefully for about 100 metres along the D46 towards Sarlat. You will come to another crossroads.

(11) Turn left, north-west, onto the straight Marie Delteil road towards Les Combes Hautes. Cross a small road (calvary) and continue straight on along the Route du Pesch towards Les Combes Basses (yellow markings), ignoring the turnings on the left.

(12) At No. 972, take the road on the right towards Les Combes Hautes and follow the yellow markings.

(13) At the T-junction (wash house opposite), turn left. Leave Labrot on your left and continue straight ahead following the yellow markings. Walk alongside a walnut plantation on your right until you reach an intersection.

(14) Turn right towards Vitrac. When the road turns left, continue straight ahead on a path (yellow markings).

(15) At the crossroads, go straight ahead then turn right onto Take the yellow-marked path which descends into the undergrowth. At the edge of the woods, follow the yellow-marked path to the left. Leave Le Colombier on your right and continue along the marked path.

(16) At the end of the path, turn left, still following the yellow markings. At the fork that appears immediately, take the Chemin des Chênes Verts on the right and go uphill. At the top of the hill, take a path on the right along the wall of a property.

(17) At the crossroads with a road, go straight on Chemin du Bouge (yellow markings). At the crossroads, take the path opposite and then turn left (yellow markings).

(18) Return to the D46, cross it carefully and follow it to the right for about 100 metres. Take the first left at the "Vitrac Bourg" sign and cross two branches of the river.

(1) At the crossroads you took at the start of the walk, continue straight ahead for about 50 metres. Then take the yellow-marked path on the left. Follow the same path you took on the way there, in the opposite direction, to return to the car park in front of the church (S/E).

Departures are possible from various car parks along the route, for example:
- Cenac football stadium car park
- Car park at the canoeing centre in Cénac

^GR® markings on the first section to Cénac.
Yellow markings on the second section to Vitrac.

Some sections are exposed to direct sunlight, so avoid these in hot weather.

Numerous restaurants in Domme where you can stop for a bite to eat.
