Circular route between L'Herm and Roquefort des Cascades

A walk suitable for all year round (provided there is no snow in winter), mostly through woodland. The first section is very accessible and family-friendly, on wide, well-maintained paths. The section after L'Herm is a well-marked climb, marked in yellow, but the path is not always obvious on the ground, with quite a few steep sections, though never dangerous (you can have lunch at the highest point).

Description of the walk

Park in the hamlet of Jean de Lamic, at the side of the road. There is no car park.

(S/E) Walk through the hamlet, heading north, and take the path that branches off to the right and leads to a crossroads.

(1) Turn onto the path on the left and head towards another crossroads.

(2) Turn onto the path climbing up to the right, towards the climbing spot, and cross the cliff via the gap. Note the vertical face on the north side.

(3) At the Col du Pas du Teil, take the path to the left, then to the right towards the west. You will reach a dead end.

(4) Leave the road on your left, continue straight on, pass under a power line, and arrive at the hamlet of Sabarthès,

(5) Take the street on the left, cross the D1 with care, and follow it to reach the centre of the village of L'Herm.

(6) After passing the town hall, turn left into Impasse du Talé, then take the path leading off to the right, until you reach Millaris

(7) Before Baragne, turn left, cross a bridge, then take the path that climbs to the right. Pass the Fontaine du Sarrat, nearby on the left, and arrive on the road at Les Parets. Head back down to the Chemin de la Calmette (a pleasant spot for a meal).

(8) Take the path immediately on the left, heading south-east, to join the GR®107, which you follow eastwards to the next junction.

(9) Leave the GR® and take the path on the left, heading north-east, to Les Trois Bornes.

(10) Turn right to head down towards Les Monges, cross the hamlet, and follow the road which leads to the D1.

(11) Follow it to the right for a few dozen metres, then turn left to reach Jean de Lamic, a car park (S/E).

A hike on Easter Monday in glorious sunshine. The first section up to the cairn isn’t signposted at all, but it’s not too hard to find your way; after that, it’s very well signposted... a lovely hike with some nice climbs... very enjoyable
