Circular between Carla-de-Roquefort and Sautel

Circular family loop with little elevation gain. Starting from Carla-de-Roquefort, via Lieurac and the Extraordinary Garden, then a beautiful ridge towards Le Sautel, and finally along the Douctouyre and the canal leading to an old mill.

Description of the walk

Parking is available in the small car park next to the church in Carla-de-Roquefort.

(S/E) Go around the church on the right (south), heading east, and then north. Take the path that descends to the right, continue along the Chemin de Ronde until you reach a crossroads.

(1) Take the path on the right, which descends slightly, until you reach the Route des Deux Ponts.

(2) Take it to the left, then immediately to the right onto Chemin du Moulin Neuf. Pass Moulin Neuf and continue along the paths separating the different fields. You will reach La Fount del Buc.

(3) Take the Chemin d'en Barriero opposite, heading north. Pass in front of the Jardin Extraordinaire. At Pradet, you will reach a crossroads.

(4) Leave the path and take the trail on the right. Then take the road on the right. Join the D12 road to Lieurac. Follow it straight ahead and you will soon reach a wash house.

(5) Leave the D12 road and take the path that climbs to the right to reach the Coteaux ridge. Continue along this ridge to reach its highest point.

(6) Continue slightly to the right and begin the descent to reach the entrance to the hamlet of Le Sautel.

(7) Turn 90° to the right onto the path at the foot of the hills, walk alongside the Ruisseau du Sautel stream and you will come to a small stone bridge.

(8) Cross this bridge and enter Lieurac at the town hall and school.

(9) Take Chemin de Terrassa on the left. Cross this small village. At the end of the village, turn left onto the road, then immediately right onto Chemin de Mane. You will soon reach another crossroads.

(10) Turn right onto the path to enter the forest, on a long stretch that ends at the junction with the D1.

(11) Turn left, taking great care to avoid cars, and continue to the hamlet of Coulzonne. Go down the path on the right to reach the small canal. Turn left and follow it to the hamlet of La Mécanique.

(12) Cross the canal to the right via the small bridge and follow the Douctouyre stream north-east for 300 m, then turn right to rejoin the canal and turn left heading north. Follow the canal to the mill, then take the Route des 2 Ponts.

(13) Take it on the left to return to the initial crossroads you passed on the way there.

(2) Turn left onto the path that climbs steeply towards the church.

(1) Go around the old castle on the right to reach the car park (S/E).
