Description of the walk

Start at the stadium car park in Étueffont. Address: 13 bis Rue de Giromagny in Étueffont.

The route is marked with a blue disc.

(S/E) Head towards Grande Rue, turn left and cross the stream "La Maratte". Turn left and go up Rue des Champs du Boule.

(1) Turn right onto the path when you reach the forest. Don't forget to turn around and admire the view. Continue climbing through the forest. When you reach the top, turn right at the crossroads and follow the signs. When you reach the houses, the path becomes paved and turns into Rue du Montanjou. Walk down to the bottom of the village.

(2) At the crossroads, turn left onto Rue des Champs du Boule and follow it. At the bend, turn left onto a path that enters the forest. Walk past a first group of beautiful ponds, then a second. When you reach the top, turn right and follow the path along the edge of the forest.

(3) Turn right onto the D58 road and leave it further on, turning right again onto a path. Pass between two pretty ponds. Continue along the path and head towards Grosmagny via Rue des Royers.

(4) Turn left when you reach Rue du Château, then right further on. As you pass, note the monument erected after the 1870 war.

(5) Turn right before the town hall to follow Rue de l'Église. Cross the roundabout with the D12 carefully and continue straight ahead on Rue de la Libération. Continue straight ahead at the various crossroads. The street changes name and becomes Rue du Grippot. Don't forget to turn around during the hike to admire the landscape, an unmissable break.

(6) When you reach the car park at the top of Rue du Grippot, near the water tower, you can make a round trip to the Chapelle du Grippot chapel by following the signs. It's definitely worth the detour. Otherwise, turn right, cross the stream and continue along the path that follows the contour line. Follow the markings and continue until you reach a T-junction with a forest road.

(7) Turn right and follow the forest road.

(8) Take the hairpin bend to the right. Keep an eye on the markings. Ignore the first path on the right and the next one on the left.

(9) At the next junction, just before the stream, turn left and descend. Join Rue du Châtelat and continue downhill to Étueffont. Turn right when you reach the D12 main road and return to the starting point (S/E).

Worth a visit

Étueffont is a village located at the foot of the Vosges mountains. In the 19th century, weaving mills began to develop. In 1879, the Zeller brothers set up weaving mills and a spinning mill in Étueffont.

Grosmagny: the village was crossed by the Roman road from the south of the Vosges. When Jeanne de Montbéliard's estate was divided up, the fiefdom of Grosmagny fell to her daughter Jeannette de Ferrette, who had marriedArchduke Albertof Austria. (Source: Wikipedia)

1870 War Monument. Abbé Miclo, vicar of Étueffont, went to help the wounded. He was killed by the Prussians. A monument has been erected on this spot.

The forge museum: a very attractive museum about the blacksmith's trade. It is also listed as a historic monument. Visitors can see the tools and objects made by the blacksmith in the past. There are sometimes special events.

Chapel of Grippot: 1867-1933. It is said to have been built following the recovery of a lady after she made a vow. A very pretty chapel. It is well worth a visit. The view over the valley is superb.
