Park just before the Pont Saint-Nicolas bridge, when you arrive from the Route d'Uzès, on the dirt track at the Pont Saint-Nicolas marker.

(S/E) Take the track that runs alongside the vineyards towards Vic, leaving all the paths and tracks that go off to the left or right. After a sharp right-hand bend, at the foot of the village of Vic (white low wall and fire hydrant), turn left onto the small, well-shaded path. Turn left at the fork to enter the village. Turn left, pass under the covered passage, go around the church to the right and continue left along the small road. Shortly after the right-hand bend, a grassy path leads off to the right.
GR®6markings: White and Red
(1) Follow this path along the crops towards Russan, ignoring the paths on the left and going to the end of the path (pumping station). Turn left, then right as you climb the stony track that takes you to the plateau.
GR®700markings: White and Red
(2) Continue straight ahead on this wide track towards Russan. On the outskirts of Russan, the path continues along a small road. At the crossroads, take a small path that continues along a road and leave a road on the right. At the next junction, go down the small steps opposite and then left to reach the Place de la Fontaine.

(3) From the Place de la Fontaine in Russan (commune of Sainte-Anastasie), walk up the Grand Rue, then right into Rue du Marellas, following the GR® signs. The street forks left into Rue du Réservoir and continues along a stony path that climbs towards the cliffs overlooking the Gardon. The majestic meanders of the river catch your eye. Pass over flat rocky slabs, leaving two paths leading off to the left to continue straight ahead and descend on the opposite side to the bottom of the valley. From here, a steep, sunny slope climbs up to the plateau.
Unmarked
(4) Just before the summit, leave the GR®, which branches off to the left, and continue straight ahead on the path marked with a yellow cross. From this point on, you are off the marked path. The path quickly becomes a small path that runs alongside the cliff. After 350m, you will come to a crossroads near a boxwood grove.
(5) Turn right onto the small path that leads down to the Grotte de la Trône. Enter this impressive hole by taking a small, delicate step over weathered rock (beware of slippery ground). This is a shelter used by prehistoric man. In the gut on the left, you will notice a door that protects the cave paintings.
Return to the path (on the left, towards the boxwood grove, is the entrance to a secondary cave, which unfortunately is no longer accessible) and continue on to the plateau where you will come to a wider path.
(6) Turn right to admire the viewpoint and read the table explaining the formation of the gorges, as well as information on its fauna.
(7) Retrace your steps.
(6) Head towards the edge of the cliff, leaving the GR® to your left. Walk eastwards along the cliff (still unmarked) along a small path that is not always well defined (rely on the cairns along the way). The path descends slightly and you come to the Baume percée, which you can admire from above(beware of the danger of falling). Climbers like to access the bottom of the cliff by abseiling through this hole.
The path rises slightly and a little further on you pass a shelter carved into the rock (you can see it by its domed roof). Continue along this path, which branches off to the north-east and heads towards a large, isolated umbrella pine.
(8) Go right and back along a path that will take you back to the foot of the cliff, this time heading west. This path will take you to the Baume percée, this time seen from below.
(9) Make a U-turn to return to the previous junction.
(8) Continue to the right.
(10) Go right to join a track that you follow to the left until it crosses the DFCI road.

(11) Turn right onto the GR® (DFCI B59) and leave all the footpaths to the right and left, with a view over the whole of the Uzège. In spring, rockroses, broom and thyme bloom in the heath. At the junction with a track (Garrigues signpost), turn right, heading east, to reach the Saint-Nicolas plateau via the GR®. At the next intersection (signposted Plateau Saint-Nicolas), continue left, still on the GR®, and shortly afterwards you will find yourself back on the banks of the Gardon, which you will overlook as far as the Saint-Nicolas bridge. Just before the bridge, turn left around the Tour Saint-Nicolas de Campagnac, cross the meadow and reach the Pont-Saint-Nicolas signpost (S/E).
