Park at the Eichwald car park.
(S/E) Cross the D204 road with care and take the path opposite, heading south, marked with a Red Ring and a Red Rectangle.
Pass close to a pumping station (on your left), and further on you’ll reach a junction with a forest track.
(1) Take the path marked with a Red Ring on the left.
Pass a drinking water treatment plant (on the left at the side of the path) and reach a road.
(2) Continue straight on along this road.
(3) For the more curious, a short return path climbs to the right towards a memorial dedicated to the woodcutter François Lienhart, who died in an accident in 1933. You’ll reach a fork with a path branching off to the right.
(4) Head up to the right, following the Red Ring and Red Rectangle markings.
(5) Turn left to climb up to the Mündel Tower plateau. You will pass this point again on the descent.
(6) Heidenkopf and Mündel Tower. You will find a table with several benches on the plateau.
The climb up the tower’s 88 steps is easy (be careful to duck your head at the top, as the opening to the viewing platform is quite low). A stunning view awaits you there.
To continue, head back the way you came until you reach the previous junction.
(5) Return to the path on the left that you left to climb the tower. After a few winding descents, you’ll reach a junction with the Ochsenlaeger Forest Road.
(7) After a few metres to the right on this Ochsenlaeger Forest Road, take the path marked with a Red Ring and Yellow Disc on the right. Then head down a track on the left and join a short section of the GR® 531 marked with a Blue Rectangle, which leads to the magnificent Verloreneck chalet shelter situated on the right-hand side of the path.
(8) After being destroyed by fire, the Verloreneck shelter was completely rebuilt in 2023. There is a large table with benches under a canopy, followed by a room with a table and benches that are fully sheltered, and further tables with benches nearby, just across a small stream.
To continue the walk, head north again, following the GR® 531 forest path marked with a Blue Rectangle for a few metres, then quickly leave this path and turn right, following the small Lauterbach stream on your left and the Red Ring markings for about 800 m.
(9) Follow the path to the right, marked with a Red Ring, and continue to the junction with a forest track about 2 km away.
(10) Cross the track and rejoin the path, which climbs gently opposite, marked with a Red Ring. Continue along this path to the next junction, where you will find the original fork.
(1) Turn left immediately after the junction, taking the path in the opposite direction to the outward journey, and follow the Red Ring markings to the end; cross the D204 county road with care and rejoin the (S/E).
