Departure point: Car park on Rue Edmond Gillot (or Saint-Martin church in Tannois).
(S/E) From the car park, turn left onto Rue Edmond Gillot.
Cross the small bridge over the Marne-Rhine Canal and take the towpath on the right towards Ligny-en-Barrois.
Pass the first lock.
(1) At the second lock, turn right onto the bridge over the canal and take the path between the Bois de Bohanne and the Bois de la Portaille towards the south-west.
A steep climb lies ahead as you make your way up to the plateau.
(2) At this three-way fork, take the right-hand path. The forest path joins a white path. Take the one that goes to the left.
Pass the hunting lodge on your left.
(3) At this crossroads, turn right to reach the Tannois viewpoint.
After the viewpoint, follow the D169 road downhill.
(5) Turn left onto the path that climbs up to the Gillot farm, then take the white path on the right between the meadows and woods.
(6) Turn right again onto the narrow descent to reach the village of Tannois.
As you leave the woods, enjoy the view of the village and, on the left, the 16th-century Château Varinot, before returning to the church and car park on Rue Edmond Gillot (S/E).
