Rapiettes Circular Loop

Walk around the Abbey of Saint-Amand de Coly. Throughout this route, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the abbey and its ramparts. Dry-stone huts dot the route. They were once used to store tools and to keep the hens in at night. You will notice the abundance and observe the diversity of the vegetation growing in the low walls. Of botanical interest.

Description of the walk

From the hiking information point at the Montignac Tourist Office, head towards Sarlat (D704). After 6 km, turn left towards Saint-Amand-de-Coly. Park at Place du 14 Juillet, a car park with a picnic table and shelter.

(S/E) With the car park behind you, leave it behind and follow the road to the right, then turn left towards the abbey. Continue until you reach the steps on the right.

(1) Take the stairs, which lead up a steep path. Numerous low walls line the path, which then climbs gently up onto the plateau. Walk past a large house and its old well, continuing straight on until you reach a crossroads marked by a wooden cross.

(2) Follow the signposting to the left, towards Castagnet, then reach the hamlet of Asplats.

(3) Turn left towards Clos de Veysset and rejoin the GR®.

(4) Follow it along the road to the left, then take the path on the right as you leave the hamlet. Head down towards a small spring, then climb back up to a tarmac road which you should take on the right, following the fences. Continue to the hamlet of La Sedayne and go past it to reach a junction.

(5) After the house at La Sedayne, take the very stony path on the right which descends steeply between walls. Turn left to reach the abbey, then right towards the (S/E).

I’m following the route using the app, so it’s hard to give a very objective opinion on the quality of the route guidance based on the description alone. A lovely, enjoyable walk.

I loved this walk because it was easy (just a bit of a climb at the start) and the scenery was stunning, with old stone buildings
The village is also very pretty

A short walk suitable for all seasons, with no muddy sections; the route alternates between shaded forest paths and stretches offering unobstructed views of the countryside. The walk starts and finishes in the pretty village of St Amand de Coly. There are lovely views of the abbey, which is illuminated at night.
