Description of the walk

Park in the spaces on Rue du Ponty, in front of the fort.

(S/E) Walk around the fort clockwise and arrive at the fountain located at the corner of Rue du Lavoir.

(1) Walk past it, following Rue du Lavoir on the left, then turn right onto Rue des Jardins. Cross Route de Saint-Germain (D720) with caution and follow Rue du Teurail opposite, which leads to a dirt track. Take it on the left and continue to the first crossroads (cross).

(2) Continue straight ahead and stay on the path that winds along the hillside to Villeneuve-Lembron: yellow and red markings for the GRP® Autour d'Issoire.

(3) At the entrance to the village, turn right twice in succession to take the Chemin des Demoiselles, which climbs steadily to the highest point at La Chaux, where it joins a carriage road.

(4) Turn right, following the GRP® markings, and walk for about 500 m.

(5) Leave the GRP® and turn right onto the path that soon descends. Pass two four-way crossroads to reach a T-junction.

(6) Turn left and then right at the next crossroads to return to the junction you passed on the way out.

(2) Turn left and retrace your steps to return to the fountain.

(1) Take the street on the left to go around the fort on the other side, then turn right and return to the car park on Rue du Ponty (S/E).

Worth a visit

(S/E) Feel free to enter the Mareugheol fort after walking around it to see the remains of this fortified village with several information panels scattered around the site; some of the renovated houses are inhabited. Please note that some areas are off-limits for safety reasons (rock falls).

(3) You can enter the village of Villeneuve-Lembron to admire its two castles.

There is a beautiful unobstructed view of the entire plain.

A lovely walk with beautiful views. A bit muddy in places, but it's been raining a lot recently, so that's to be expected.
