The hike starts in the hamlet of Les Achards. Access is via the RD1085 from La Mure towards Corps, then the D212. There is plenty of parking at the entrance to the village.
(S/E) From the car park, cross the entire hamlet to the chapel.
(1) Take the path on the right between the two houses. This path climbs steeply and has a few yellow markings on the ground. Continue to the Col de Chauvet, where you will find your first viewpoint over the Obiou Massif and the foothills of the Dévoluy.
(2) From Col Chauvet, enter the Sautet National Forest on the left. The path turns into a wider but little-used track, which you will follow for about 700 metres.
(3) At this point, leave the track and take a barely visible path on your left, which will continue uphill to Col Nodry. The markings are not obvious, but the path is clearly visible on the ground. Continue until you are about a hundred metres from the pass.
(4) Turn right to climb Côte Rouge, which is another 200 metres of elevation gain, allowing you to enjoy a 360° view of all the surrounding mountain ranges (Vercors, Dévoluy, Queyras, Écrins, Oisans, Taillefer, etc.) and the Sanctuary of La Salette. Again, there are few landmarks, but the IGN map (black dots) or your GPS track will be more than enough to keep you on the route (outside the forest).
(5) Follow the descending ridges of La Scia north-west to reach Col Nodry at an altitude of 1,827 metres.
(6) Turn left towards Saint-Michel-en-Beaumont and Haut Col.
(7) Go through the gate in the fence to continue following the descending path towards the sheepfold.
(8) At this unmarked intersection, continue along the left side of the path to reach the Haut Col mountain sheepfold.
(9) At the sheepfold, the livestock pen is accessed via a sluice gate under the main barn building.
After this airlock, take the path downhill along the left-hand fence until you reach a main track, which you follow for about 300 metres.
(10) Leave the track through a gate and take the path on the right, which is flat for 200 m and then descends southwards.
(11) At this intersection, turn left towards Les Achards. Follow the path towards the hamlet, which you will reach at the chapel.
(1) Continue straight ahead to the car park (S/E).
