Description of the walk

Start from the car park at Place des Halles in Nabirat.

(S/E) Join the Route de Font de Bastide and follow it for a few metres until you reach the junction with the Voie de la Vieille Forge. Turn straight ahead, following the yellow markings. Before the Route de Peyregrosse, turn onto the path directly opposite it and continue to a T-junction.

(1) Take the signposted path branching off to the right, towards La Boissière. Turn left at the first track you come to, the Route des Lavandes. At the T-junction, turn right. Turn left before Pech Grand. Enter the hamlet of La Boissière.

(2) At this Y-junction, continue along the road leading down to the right, leaving the yellow signposting behind.

(3) Take the road on the right (you’ll cross from the Dordogne into the Lot) before Lizabel. Reach a junction at elevation 109.

(4) Turn left as you head downhill, cross the Lizabel, pass the wash house (back into the Dordogne) and go through the hamlet of Liaubou Bas.

(5) After the last house, take the path on the left running alongside it.

(6) When you reach the road, cross over towards Les Pialades campsite and take the Chemin des Carbonnières on the left, which climbs alongside the campsite.

(7) Carry on straight ahead, passing the strawberry greenhouses.

(8) When you reach the hamlet of Les Cabanes, take the path branching off to the right, between the first houses. Ignore the first path branching off to the right (a sandy path going uphill) and a second one branching off to the left (at the strawberry greenhouses). Continue to a crossroads with four paths, at an elevation of 170.

(9) At this junction, turn left. After 500 m, ignore the path branching off to the left and carry on until you reach the road leading to the hamlet of Pech Pialat, passing by the fountain. Walk uphill a little.

(10) To take a short stroll around the hamlet and admire the beautiful houses, take the second street on the right, then left, then the second on the right. Turn left and rejoin the main road, which you follow to the right.
Head back down, then take the path leading off to the right towards the water tower; leave this on your left and descend via a small footpath.

(11) From here, follow the yellow signposts back to the village.
Turn left towards a wooden house with a pond, then turn right, then left 100 metres further on, and continue to the road opposite the cemetery.
Follow the road to the right as far as the hamlet of Nabirat. Then turn right to reach the village square with its covered market hall (S/E).

The route description on its own may be misleading. It is best to use the GPS app.
The stage numbers in the route description – which go directly from the starting point to point 2 – do not correspond to those on the GPS route
Point 3 in the route description is actually point 2.
To clarify, once you have parked in the Place des Halles, head towards the church, and from there follow the yellow markings, taking care at every junction, until you reach the hamlet of La Boissière. (point 3 in the route description, point 2 on the GPS)
From there, follow the route description
Please note that in the hamlet of Pech Pialat (point 11 in the route description), do not take the second right – this is private property. Continue straight on to rejoin the main road.
A pleasant and easy walk.

What can one say about this walk other than that it’s nothing but a delight from start to finish? It’s very easy; you hardly feel like you’re walking. The scenery along the way is very varied. We even managed to buy a punnet of strawberries direct from the grower at point no. 4.

Please note: if you reach the water tower (just after point no. 4), turn back. The little path is slightly to the left if you retrace your steps, and of course to the right if you follow the route after visiting the village and its superb houses (the little path that goes downhill). It’s easy to miss this path as you tend to be admiring the scenery.

As for us, we spent two nights at this campsite, which is very pleasant and run by extremely welcoming owners. This allowed us to make the most of this superb walk, which I recommend without any reservations. The strawberries are the icing on the cake!
