Description of the walk

Park in the Champ de la Vierge car park in front of the church.

(S/E) On leaving the churchyard, head left, passing the fountain (whilst admiring the renovation of this inland village), then take the small grassy path up to the left, facing the Quimerc’h road, running alongside house no. 4. Pass the fire reservoir and cross the hamlet of Reun Ar Beuzit.

(1) At the crossroads, continue straight ahead along a path lined with magnificent trees that descends towards the river Faou Ster Goz.

(2) Cross the ford via a recently built footbridge to reach the local road leading to Hanvec. Cross the road (caution: busy road) and take the dirt track straight ahead which climbs towards Kerlavarec. Go round the village to the left along recently cleared paths, then pass under the power lines and continue to the crossroads.

(3) Turn right, then quite soon left, and arrive at a multi-way junction.

(4) Continue left and, at the three-way junction, follow the path to the right until you reach a tarmac road near the village of Kermoal.

(5) Turn right and reach the road (C2) leading to Hanvec.

(6) Cross the road and take a dirt track that leads into the Cranou Forest.
The Cranou Forest is mainly planted with oaks and beeches, which were primarily used for shipbuilding. In particular, the oaks provided the masts as they produced the longest and straightest specimens. You will come to a bridle path.

(7) Head up this straight track to the right, cross a short stretch of path through a mix of oak and silver fir trees, and emerge onto a car park and a road (D42).

(8) Cross over (caution: busy road) and take the wide forest track opposite, which descends a few metres further on to the right.

(9) Just at the bottom of the descent, be careful and turn right into the undergrowth onto a small path. Cross the river via the ford formed by a few stones and a sunken dirt track, then head back up to the village of Le Stum. Take the section of road opposite to reach the hamlet of Lincosper.

(10) In the village, turn left to pass in front of the well and take a sunken path leading to Coat-Bihan. Continue along the road towards Kergarrec and take thefirst path on the left.

(11) Turn onto this grassy track which runs alongside the property entrance and head down to the river (if the track is too muddy, take the path through the undergrowth). Cross the river via the Pont ar Roudou schist slab to emerge onto a track suitable for vehicles (Chemin de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle).

(12) Follow this to the right, pass under two power lines and, after a 90° right-hand bend, reach a fork.

(13) Do not take the Kerazéas bridge but continue left until you reach the road (C19) leading to Quimerc’h. Turn right until you reach a fork.

(14) Take the tarmac road on the left leading to Rulann. Cross the hamlet and continue along the farm track. Carry on to the village of Rumengol and arrive at the Diwan School. Cross the road (caution: busy road) and, opposite No. 5, take the sharp right-hand bend and return to the starting car park via Chemin de l’Évêque (S/E).

A superb walk with very little road walking. The scenery is incredibly varied. Watch out for muddy paths and streams at this time of year (late March): make sure you wear waterproof shoes. After the first climb past a farm, don’t hesitate to go under the fence wires – they’re only there to keep the cows in. There are a few dogs, but they’re not aggressive. I highly recommend it!!!

Today’s route started from Le Faou and combined with the Porche-to-Porche route, which intersects this route at point 2
At this time of year, there isn’t too much mud, but there is still a bit in places, so make sure you wear good shoes
No trouble following the route; otherwise, it’s not signposted at all
A lovely circular route through the countryside, with the added bonus for us this Sunday of a procession at Rumengol church

Still on the Cani Rando trail, this is definitely the most beautiful route I’ve done in the area.
It’s true, it isn’t signposted, but if you follow the tracks carefully, you’ll be fine!
There’s just one tricky spot because there’s always a tree in the way.
I highly recommend it!

A lovely walk. Very hilly with beautiful scenery. We didn’t see a soul. However, make sure you follow the written directions and the map carefully, as there are no trail markings.
