Circular Labarde loop via the marsh and Château Giscours

A very pleasant walk through the marsh and then the vineyards, taking you past pidgeon hunting huts.
The marsh consists of floodplain woodland on peaty soil.
These stands consist of willows, black alders, ash trees, poplars and pedunculate oaks, with a understorey of deadwood such as hawthorn and blackthorn.
The flora includes summer snowflakes and marsh irises.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From the car park on the edge of Chemin du Château, take the path then turn right to follow the Laurina. After the small bridge on your right, continue, then turn left at the second path, then right over the small bridge and then left, continuing straight ahead. Pass a pidgeon hunting hut on your right and follow the fence.

(1) Under the high-voltage power line, take the path going uphill opposite, follow the edge of the pond to the right, turn left at the corner and follow the path to a building.

(2) Turn right at the corner of the vineyard, then left to go round the riding stables, and continue straight on along the white track to reach the castle’s fence. Follow it and walk past Château Giscours.

(3) At Ferme Suzanne, turn left, walk alongside the buildings, go through the gate to enter the marsh. Turn right, walk past a pond to reach Labarde and the D2.

(4) Cross it carefully. At the last house, turn right and cross the vineyards. Pass two paths on your left.

(5) At Bel-Air, at the T-junction, turn left, pass a path on your left and continue to the T-junction at the dairy farm.

(6) Turn left, then right, then straight on. Pass a road and arrive at the railway line.

(7) Follow the railway line to the left until you reach the cemetery, go round it on the left, turn left onto the road (D2), cross it and take the street opposite, the Allée du Moulin. Turn left to reach the car park (S/E).

Notes

Best undertaken from spring onwards due to the risk of wet areas in the marsh.
This will allow you to see the flora in bloom and discover the marshland wildlife.

This walk is not recommended in October and early November so as not to disturb pidgeon hunting in a pidgeon hunting hut.
