Description of the walk

Park in the car park near the Étang de Paloumey.

(S/E) Walk around the pond on the left and, when you reach the houses, turn right, staying close to the pond, and head towards a tarmac road.

(1) Cross the D211 carefully, take the path through the vineyards on the left to reach the edge of the forest. Turn right and you’ll come to a wide dirt track.

(2) Turn right and continue straight on until you reach a pond.

(3) Turn right onto the dirt track and keep going straight on, passing between two ponds and continuing to the tarmac road. Turn right and you’ll reach a junction.

(4) Cross the D211 carefully, walk past Château Cantemerle, then turn right onto the path to reach the edge of the forest and turn left towards the D2.

(5) Cross it carefully (busy road) and walk past the buildings of Château Lynch.

(6) Turn right onto the white track, go through the gates and follow the railway line. Cross a road and continue straight ahead to the windmill.

(7) Turn right to reach the corner of Château La Lagune

(8) Turn right onto the path through the vineyards and continue to a road. Turn left onto this road, cross the D2 with care and head to the car park near the Étang de Paloumey (S/E).

During hot spells – that is to say, for the past three months, almost every day – you might prefer the car park at the day camp to the east of the lake, on Rue de la Longua, to the ‘official’ car park to the north, as it offers trees and shade. It’s also well worth doing a full loop around the gravel pit (+1 for the ‘Cap Ferret atmosphere!’) and, in my humble opinion, doing the route in the opposite direction because, in the suggested direction, the final third along the railway line and through the vineyard is a bit of a slog. Thanks for the route in any case.
