Circular route around the Étang de la Geneste and Les Loges-en-Josas starting from Buc

A varied route, more than half of which is through woodland. Crosses a village via footpaths, a plain with views, and a pond. The surface of the route is in good condition, except for the embankment, depending on the height of the grass. A pleasant little walk well worth discovering.

Description of the walk

The start is in Buc, in the Pré Saint-Jean car park. Please note that the car park has a free section and a Blue Zone section.

(S/E) Head east, cross Rue des Frères Robin and the central reservation in front of the theatre, then take the narrow lane on the right. Follow the red and white markings of the GR®11 (barrier).Walk alongside a secondary road, which you will cross, as well as the Bièvre.

(1) Turn right to follow it along the left bank, cross to the other side and continue. Go round the pond on the left then head up to the right until you reach the turnstile. Then turn left to join the D938.

(2) Cross it carefully, passing under the arches: there is an information panel about this structure. Continue along the GR® to the Vauptain stud farm, cross it and cross the Bièvre again.

(3) Head right along the restored river with its meanders. Join a road, turn right towards Les Loges-en-Josas for about 100 m, then turn left at the barrier.

(5) Head up to the right along the Sente de la Fontaine (GRP® yellow and red markings), following a wall with a flight of 87 steps. Once in Les Loges-en-Josas, take the Grande Rue to the right, then the Rue des Haies to the left, leaving the marked trail.

(6) Turn right onto the Chemin des Écoliers (library, nursery), continuing after crossing a car park and Rue Guy Mocquet. The path resumes almost directly opposite, with a slight offset of 10 m to the left, and eventually leads onto Rue de la Garenne. Turn left onto this street until you reach the roundabout: note the Borne de la Liberté 1945.

(7) Continue straight ahead along Rue de la White Cross, cross the industrial estate and pass the Éloge stud farms. Continue straight on to the D938, taking the dirt track to the left over a small hill.

(8) Turn left to follow the road along the cycle path for about 300 m. Carefully cross the D938 by turning right about a hundred metres after a detached house, and follow the path leading to the Étang du Pré Clos. Enter the wooded area and, just before the gate, climb up to the right onto the grassy embankment. Stay on it until you reach the low monument marking the site of the fatal accident involving an aviation pioneer, the pilot Louis Massotte (1906–1937), nicknamed ‘Ace of Hearts’.

(9) From here, head down to the left and make your way to the Henry Roth roundabout. Turn left onto Chemin de Villaroy aux Loges: white metal barrier. As you pass, you can see a breeding and training kennel for guide dogs on the left. You’ll reach a junction opposite a wild hedge.

(10) Take the grassy path on the right. At the end of it, turn left (you are behind Fort de Buc), continue with a 90° right-hand bend and go straight on until you reach Avenue Charles Quatremare.

(11) Cross it carefully as there is no pedestrian crossing and head left to reach a bus park. Head towards the far end on the right, find the path, go down four steps then turn left and enter the woodland.

(12) Turn left at the junction. Then take the path on the right leading down towards the Bièvre, which you cross after passing a larger road called Route des Prés de Buc. You’ll reach a star-shaped crossroads and rejoin the GR®11.

(13) Continue diagonally to the right, following the Étang de la Geneste. Turn right at the end of the pond and cross the Bièvre again.

(14) Immediately afterwards, take the steps onto the path on the left to walk along the right bank of the river as far as the tennis courts.

(15) Cross back to the left bank to return to the Pré Saint-Jean car park (S/E).
