The Grand Canal in the Park of Versailles

Parking is available on the street (subject to a charge), or you can walk from Versailles-Chantiers station (2.5 km, about 30 minutes’ walk) or Versailles Rive Droite station (1.2 km, about 15 minutes’ walk).

Start at the Grille de la Reine.

(S/E) Enter the park and continue straight on for about 250 m. At a junction, turn right onto Avenue de Trianon.

(1) At the crossroads, take the^second right onto Allée du Petit Trianon, towards the Domaine de Marie-Antoinette.

(2) On the esplanade of the Petit Trianon, turn left towards the Grand Trianon.

(3) On the esplanade of the Grand Trianon, turn left onto the Allée de la Reine. Continue straight on until you reach the Grand Canal.

(4) Then turn right and walk along the canal on your left. Keep to the canal’s edge and continue to its western end.

(5) Continue along the canal to complete the entire route.

(6) Go through the gate to the Château Gardens – this is not possible if the château is closed. Continue along the canal to reach the other garden gate (marked on the map) or walk around the Bassin du Char d’Apollon.

(7) Go through the^second gate of the Château Gardens – this route is not accessible if the Château is closed. Turn immediately right onto the Allée de la Petite Venise.

(1) Turn right onto Avenue du Trianon to return to the Grille de la Reine (S/E).

Paid parking is available on Boulevard de la Reine or at Place d’Armes.
Versailles Rive Droite station via the Transilien
Versailles-Chantiers station via the RER C, TER and TGV
Versailles Château Rive Gauche via the RER C

In wet weather, wear shoes that can cope with mud (not necessarily walking boots).

Expect crowds at weekends and during school holidays.

You can visit the Domaine de Trianon separately from the Palace.
